What do all of you know about this? I had a cousin who is having issues with the church email about it and I had never heard of it. He was saying something about JS giving a black person the priesthood? Anyway I figured some of you would know.

It's been around for awhile. Here's the history.

http://www.ldsgenesisgroup.org/history.htm

One of the leaders, Darius Gray, is featured in the PBS documentary on the Mormons. In the documentary he states that it is hard to overcome some of the racist teachings of the past. My husband's aunt, who teaches at BYU mistook him for a pastor from a different religion and thought his comments were critical. I had to point out that he was a faithful member commenting on the the difficulties of overcoming the past.

Not many members know about the group. I'm quite surprised they haven't elevated any of the group's leaders to GAs or other more prominent roles within the church. So in that way I guess it's kind of like relief society for african americans. It's contained and doesn't influence the larger institution.

It's another one of those "looky-we're-just-like-you" advertising websites....similar to the ridiculous advertisements.

I’ve begun worshiping the sun for a number of reasons. First of all, unlike some other gods I could mention, I can see the sun. It’s there for me every day. And the things it brings me are quite apparent all the time: heat, light, food, a lovely day. There’s no mystery, no one asks for money, I don’t have to dress up, and there’s no boring pageantry. And interestingly enough, I have found that the prayers I offer to the sun and the prayers I formerly offered to God are all answered at about the same 50-percent rate.” George Carlin
