hayuz:And I have been trying to figure out if she is doing that on porpoise, or just for the halibut.....
Good question... I went to the mechanic today, he said that I blew a seal, I told him, "Hey leave my personal life out of this and just fix the car buddy!"

I like to pick up the paper here in Happy Valley every now and then and get a good laugh from the comics...and yes usually the editorials as well. Can't decide which section brings more laughs. Anyway...there was an article on the front page about the billboard and I was very interested in the approach of not being "hateful" or "vindictive" so I thought I would check it out. I have never actually been to any other forums or sites like this.
I heard about this place from Jeff's son, my brother from another mother (and father).
Nate
When when my son moved away from home to go to a college in Phoenix it was a big thing for me because he was the first child to move out of the house. It was comforting to me to know that Nate was there too to be his friend. Yep, Nate's my son from another mother and father.
Good Morning. I was in Dallas, TX this week on business. I usually catch up on the news on the KUTV 2 website. There was a link to the story they offered this week on about Tuesday?? Anyway, I clicked on it and..:::poof::: I am here.
I am intrigued by the notarity this website has gotten.
In the SL Trib this morning, a fellow has writted a letter to the editor about the dogmatic stuff he has read here. I find it amazing how threatened Mormons feel about those around them that don't agree with their throught process. Mind you, I too felt this same way for years. My exwife had invited me to visit churches with her while she was investigating the mormon church. I declined saying that I knew enough of others and was entrenched.
In a world that has laws of nature that are firmly established, the more you investigate them, the more apparent it should be that those laws are irrefutible. 2+2 will always equal 4 unless you add another variable to it. I scratch my head at how threatened believers are by non believers.

Thanks for the website!

Thanks for the heads-up on the Trib letter swwetgras. I went out and picked up a copy so I could read the letter while sippng coffee at Village Inn. Here's the letter:
More irony
I read with interest the story in the April 10 Tribune regarding the "Post-Mormon" support group, so I went to their Web site to find out more.
They proudly proclaim, "We are not anti-Mormon; it is not our intent to belittle others" (and the site had numerous pictures of happy faces). Sounds fine.
Yet I found it strangely ironic that they immediately proceeded to declare that "dogmatism and authoritarianism have proven detrimental to many individuals" and that the church is full of "narrow-minded tribalism that impedes personal growth and fosters a divided community" (as if any of that were an exclusively Mormon thing).
Of course "Post-Mormon" is progressive because, "We feel bad for those who choose ignorance." Needless to say, my interest quickly evaporated when it became apparent that "Post-Mormon" seems to personify everything it claims to despise. But it does prove to me that reactionary groups tend to be blind to their own intolerance and dogma.

When people spread positive news about us it's great because it brings people to our community. When people spread negative news about us it's great because it brings people to our community. From there the sheep and the goats are separated. The close minded, orthodox Mormons will find all kinds of reasons to complain about us but the open-minded, more tolerant Mormons (I guess you could say those who are more Christ-like), former-Mormons and never-Mormons will tend to like the community (from what we've seen so far) and many will want to be a part of it. Fortunately, the latter is our target audience.
So, I hope to see more letters to the editor, positive or negative, in the Trib and elsewhere -- maybe even the Deseret News. And I want to thank Doug for helping us with our public awareness campaign! Lots of people read the opinion section of the Trib!
I was looking for a supportive group, and there ya all were. By direction of my good friend Ed. I recently moved back to Cache Valley after a few years away. I was a full blooded Mormon the last time I was there. I have to say I was a bit nervous about the move. As I have been reading the posts the last few days. It has been amazing to me how many Loganites here are of the post version of Mormon. Its nice to see Logan coming out of the closet.
Take care all.
We're having a lot of new people sign up lately, which is great! I'm wondering where you all are coming from. How did you find out about PostMormon.org? You who have been here for awhile feel free to answer too. Thanks!
While working out at the gym, I happened to see the billboard being shown on the news.
I think I found this site a couple of years ago when I was looking to see if there was anything under the "post mormon" name. My friend and I had just finished a long discussion about how that was a good way to describe us: not labeling ourselves based on the Morg's vocabulary, but on the fact that we have moved on to better things.
I read about your billboard in Logan on the "HarkTheHerald" website. There was a reference to this website, so I had to check it out. I check out the Provo Daily Herald website because I once was a denizen of the B.Y. and lived in Provo for ten years or so. Now I am at a safe distance...mentally and geographically.
When I go to the Herald website, I am reminded of my past life and why I bailed. The news articles are semi-interesting, but the comments section is not to be overlooked. The Provolones and their Provokers get into some discussions that reveal what life was/is like in the little world that is "Happy Valley".
Anyway, I have not felt the need to join in to any of the webssites dedicated to the topic of the culture and religion of Utah, but I didn't want to be a lurker and not at least throw in a comment of support. I like the general tone of this site, no one seems to be in attack mode, but just an acknowledgment of the existence of life after The Church is refreshing.
I had seen this site via the RfM board but did not actually join until I met skeptic and he encouraged me to look intothe site. I did and found that in many cases the people or at least the posts here tend to be a little more grounded, a little less venom.
Someone asked a question of inactives on the board and someone said this was a good place to ask questions and chat with others who are inactive or have left completely, etc.

So here I am!
So let me get this straight. It was an LDS person who said this is a good place to ask questions, or was it an inactive or former Mormon who said that? Thanks for the feedback. This is good stuff to know!
Bacon:I work for the company that printed the billboard.
Cool! Thanks for posting that and welcome! Any inside tips, such as how to insure I get the colors I intend, are appreciated. The reds weren't as bright as I was expecting. Looked great otherwise!
Hi all...found out about this web-site watching KUTV 2. Thought I might check it out. Lot's of interesting info and touching stories. I love reading all of your thoughts. I'm gona keep reading more of your thoughts and introduce myself in a bit. By the way, I too was once a TBM but have left the fold a long time ago.

Are you saying were were on channel TV 2 news too? I knew we were on channel 13 TV news a couple of weeks ago.
I could be wrong about which channel. I get all the Utah ones mixed up (except for KSL ). I just think it's great to have asite like this to go to. I've done alot of research on Mormonism and Christianity over the years. Because I was once TBM, and my parents and some of my siblings still are, I have a hard time discussing my learnings. I usually get the look of scorn or why are you looking at all that anti-mormon mumbo-jumbo. Anyway, It was one of the news channels and I'm glad I got it...
My wife linked over from RfM or Mormon Curtain (can't remember which). She started reading posts and was immediately drawn in. This is the first time she's really been compelled to participate (It's a very inviting community). When she got me to read some of the posts, I was hooked, as well. It's been a fun couple of weeks, so far.
A woman I know told me all about the forum and how it had been a source of real support for her as she went about the process of really questioning her faith. I did not share with her my own quest...but went directly home to look up the site. That was a year or more ago.
My nevermo husband read an article in the newspaper about the billboard and told me about it. I think it was in the Modesto, CA local paper (he was away on business, I can't remember exactly what city he was in at the time).
There is some broohaha about a programme shown in the US called 'Mormons', supposedly outing a little of the mormon dubious history in order to vaccinate people against the shock effect of the up-coming September Dawn movie. So I googled 'mormon' and here we are!
I'm in England so haven't seen this programme yet, but will watch the film when it is released over here. I expect it will be well publicised as our own Terence Stamp is playing Brigham Young. I see TV interviews and much exposure coming up folks.
My seer stone tells me it will do well at the Oscars. I'm currently reading Grant Palmer's amazing book, An Insider's View of Mormon Origins.
I found out about this site several years ago when I googled DNA Lamanite and Book of Mormon. I found Southerton's article and was greatly influenced by it.
I found out about PostMormon.org from Dogzilla. She's been love bombing me. At first it was just a friendly email. Then she sent cookies via Federal Express. Last week she mailed me a homemade refrigerator magnet in the shape of the Kinderhook Plates that said, "Posting on PostMormon.org" and had a little heart dangling from it that said "Done" on one side and "Do it!" on the other. How could I resist joining?
How nice that I've already recognized a few familiar names, such as my friends Skeptical, Brigantia, Tigerbiter, Deconstructor, and others! Hopefully, in time, I'll make a few new friends and get to know y'all better.
after a particularly venomous fight between posters at a different site someone mentioned this site, saying something to the affect of "they're much nicer over there and they won't jump down your throat and eviscerate your bowels from the inside out when they don't agree with you. Debates stay debates and ad hominem attacks don't happen." It was something like that, and I can't remember who said it. Maybe Dogzilla?
BTW firefox is pretty damn cool, it underlines all the words I spell wrong. How did I ever live without firefox?
