How anyone can stay in a group that touts a man's words (such as these) as being "inspired" is beyond me!

"The most important thing for a woman in this life is to be the wife of a worthy priesthood holder and the mother of his children."

Did anyone attend?

Packer is truly a gift that keeps on giving. I love his quotables, from little factory to tendancies/temptations to this. How can this guy not create cogdis in a TBM?

That's a bonus about not being into this shit any more: I don't have to go to these incessant meetings, and I most definitely don't have to give on ounce of weight to Boyd's words!

What a dickwad. Yes, I am speaking evil of the Lord's annointed! ME! Packer is a PRICK.

This statement sums up a major element of the church's sexism: A woman's identity and worth are defined by her relationship to others (especially men), not in who she is as an individual.

I guess it makes sense that Mary is the most prominent Christian women. Why is she important? She's the mother of the most important male.

(Note to self: Make sure my young daughter -- who will inescapably be raised in the church by her mother -- grows up aware of the fact that this kind of teaching is absolutely vile, damaging, and false.)

(Another note to self: Make sure my son knows it, too.)

I'm just speechless. When and where did he say this? Would someone please tell me why women (and men) don't leave the church just because of comments like this?

And they wonder why I compare the church to the taliban.....same group, different costumes.

I’ve begun worshiping the sun for a number of reasons. First of all, unlike some other gods I could mention, I can see the sun. It’s there for me every day. And the things it brings me are quite apparent all the time: heat, light, food, a lovely day. There’s no mystery, no one asks for money, I don’t have to dress up, and there’s no boring pageantry. And interestingly enough, I have found that the prayers I offer to the sun and the prayers I formerly offered to God are all answered at about the same 50-percent rate.” George Carlin

The church had a world wide training today from 3-5 MST. I can't figure out how to post links on my ipad but... You can read the full talk on LDS.org then broadcasts then article then worldwide-leadership-training then 2012/02 then priesthood-power-in-the-home. If someone could post the actual link that would be good.

That would suck if you achieve your life purpose at age 21. Then what? What a letdown! Then it's just more of the same for the rest of your life. Nothing else after that will bring you as much joy and satisfaction (which is even worse if you're not really that joyful or satisfied with kids to begin with).

Endure to the end.    zoloft anyone??

I tried posting the actual link, but lds.org hasn't posted the broadcast on their page yet.

“However, “the most correct book” implies that it may not be absolutely correct…” Ensign, June 1984
“Mistakes such as typographical errors, misspellings, misplaced or dropped words, and ambiguities noted in the first edition are usually corrected in the next. Other changes in these and successive editions were made to correct typographical errors, improper spelling, and inaccurate or missing punctuation and to improve grammar and sentence structure to eliminate ambiguity” Ensign, March 1987

Here is a link but I still need help linking it . Notice the line about "The church is growing rapidly across the world!"

Rampant Sexism was the biggest reason I was dissatisfied with TSCC as a teenager. There is no place for an outspoken, strong-willed, individualistic woman in the church. Don't get me wrong, being a mother has been a wonderful role for my life; one of the best. But that is not all there is to me, and I would never settle for anything less than following my dreams and goals. Furthermore, having a husband who is my "authority"?? No thanks! Equal partnership! I, too, don't understand how TBM women can stay in a culture that devalues them!

Lizzy had the misfortune of having a convert dad that truly wanted a tbm family.  She caused him tons of grief and exacerbating moments.  There was a time that we didn't communicate with each other.  You should know that Lizzy is so intelligent that her parents didn't know how to keep up or guide her.  She has overcome that and is making great strides in her education.  She is also a great mother.  I get such a treat seeing my grandsons and I'm amazed at how much they know at such a young age.  Their mother is doing a fantastic job.

I used to tell my mother that my sister and I didn't grow up good because of her, but in spite of her.  Lizzy can say the same thing.

It would be funny to ask BKP to define sexism, and see if he even knows what the word means.

Thank God my teenage daughter knows the church is bullshit.

She has high profesional aspirations and will hopefully fulfill them.

One thing's for sure, she will not have to deal with all the guilt and weird expectations of the mormon cult.
