The Stone Cut Out of the Mountain Begins to Roll !
Last Saturday the Board of Trustees and Staff Members of the Post-Mormon Community met to approve and sign our Articles of Incorporation papers, and officers were officially elected. Keep in mind that we’re organizing as a non-prophet, non-profit corporation. Over the next 2 to 4 weeks we’ll be finalizing our by-laws and completing the paperwork necessary to file for tax-exempt status so that any donations will be tax deductible.
Click here to see an organizational chart showing how the management team is organized. You might have to use your browser’s image zoom button to be able to read the text. The Staff Organization includes the people who have agreed to manage a particular area of the organization. They can each recruit any help they feel they need to keep their area running smoothly. The Board of Trustees is the part of the organization that oversees the mission and overall direction of the organization. Included but not shown in the chart are you the Members who are also officially included as part of the organization and legal entity known as the Post-Mormon Community. Thanks everyone for being a part of the Community!

Status Report
This morning I read some essays that Daryl sent me written by a retired Episcopal Bishop, John Shelby Spong. I enjoy reading Spong’s thoughts because he’s about as unreligious as a religious person can be. I noticed that a recurring theme in his essays is his assessment of what drives the religious activist. Here’s an axcerpt:
“Fundamentalism has little to do with religious truth. It is rather a security seeking, defense mechanism used by frightened people. Fundamentalism rises out of an inner need for certainty that the world will never provide. That is also why there is such anger in fundamentalism, as well as great hostility toward those who are not by their definition ‘true believers.’ The people who have written the most hate-filled letters to me, and almost all of the death threats that I have received, have come from those who define themselves as ‘Bible based, true believers.’ That should tell us something about both their fear and about the integrity of their belief system.”

We Have a New Name!
New Host
This weekend this website was moved over to another server. I want to thank one of our members, tjohnson, for taking care of it all. He owns a hosting company and is also hosting us free of charge on a better, faster server than prior to the move. The move also makes us much more secure when in the future hackers attempt to shut us down. I’m sure it’ll happen at some point—hacking for the Lord, you know. And what better customer support can we get than direct from the owner of the business. Thank you tjohnson!!!
New Name
In the process of changing hosts we also changed the website domain from PostMormon.com to the more appropriate PostMormon.org. We are after all not a dot-com, which implies a business entity. All links and bookmarks that use the PostMormon.com name will still work and will always work.

To All Support Groups and Potential Support Groups
There are a number of new groups waiting in the wings to be set up within our community. There have been delays in bringing that about but we’ll get there soon. We are finalizing the website tools you’ll use to help manage your group. Please be patient, and thank you to those who have expressed an interest in starting a group in your area!

New Articles Coming!
The Magazine will be updated with several new high quality articles by the end of the month.
Looking for One More Board Member
We now have four of our five board member seats filled. To fill the final board seat we are looking for a former Mormon CPA or an attorney experienced with forming non-profit organizations in Utah, or someone experienced in accounting and/or bookkeeping. If you are interested in joining our board of directors please provide information about yourself, list your experience and it would be helpful if you can provide references.
A board member can expect a once per month online board meeting to review progress relative to a detailed one-year strategic plan as well as a general three-year plan. We need someone with proven experience in the business world to help us grow and guide the future of our Post-Mormon Community.
If you are not interested or feel you are not qualified but you know of someone who might be then please let us know who he or she is. Please send all correspondence to: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

We Have Our First Donation!
This news weblog was created as a way to help keep members informed about any news pertaining to our budding community. During Christmas and New Years week, in addition to having fun with the family I’ll be focusing on finalizing a few details on the website database system that have taken much more time than I would have liked. There are actually three separate databases that have required some custom software to get them to speak to each other agreeably. At times I’ve felt like a marriage counselor in a polygamous relationship! But everyone seems to be happy now. One database manages the data and articles of the magazine, one the discussion forums and the main one manages the overall membership data as well interfaces nicely with credit card, PayPal and other pay systems that will be used once we are ready to open our doors as a non-profit organization and start receiving donations.
