Advice for college students leaving the Church View

Advice you can offer students who have left the church:

1.    Take the good things with you that you have gained from Mormonism, i.e. A Healthy life style, commitment to family and community.

2.    Whereby Latter Day Saints who are questioning their religion or those who resign their memberships are often shunned or have been disciplined by the Church for questioning, can find support and empowerment by joining the Post Mormon Community at www.postmormon.org and also by finding a local Post Mormon Chapter such as we have in St. George.

3.    Take a philosophy class and learn the concepts of logic and what comprises a valid and invalid argument and learn to identify the argument fallacies.

4.    Take a “Critical Thinking” class. Learn the value of viewing what is presented us in everyday life through the lens of the ‘Scientific Method’ and ‘Reason’.

5.    Thoroughly study the issues facing Mormonism both from the Churches perspective, the FARMS and FAIR web sites and the Post Mormon perspective.

6.    Obtain an understanding of the peer review process which certifies knowledge.

7.    Have compassion and understanding for family and members of the community who are threatened because you have not chosen the ‘families are forever kingdom’ of Mormonism’s afterlife.

8.    Enlightenment is painful and is much like going through a divorce. Be patient and allow yourself to heal and grow.
