Examples of Why PostMormon.org Exists View

Below are examples of comments we've received from the LDS community. Former-Mormons are frequently mislabeled, mistreated and misjudged by many in the LDS community. Please stop it!

An email received on 10 April 2007:

I just don't know why you guys would spend the time and money to do this.. "Do what you want,"I could care less but don't you think that people should live life without other influences, such as yourself? If they want to leave, it should be up to them-not by reading articles that test or doubt their faith. That's pretty messed up. I think that everyone knows right from wrong-I think people should be left alone.

It's interesting because my grandfather was a HUGE author of anti-literature for 35 years. He is now re-baptized and KNOWS what he did was wrong. After he tried convincing so many people of their faith... Don't you wonder if one day you 'might' regret what you're doing? Sounds like a guilty conscience to me... Mormonism is not a trap-unless you trap yourself in sin-it's psychology, not Mormonism..... THEN you feel trapped. You guys are really wasting your time, and in big trouble in the next life... Live it up while you can.

and have to admit that your organization has the feel of one that I hope I never have to join. My guess (and that is all that it is) is that most of your members were either insulted/slighted by a bishop or church member and they now blame the entire Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a whole. Or perhaps your members feel guilty about mistakes they have made in their personal lives and prefer to feel "free" of judgement for the time being by avoiding their own shortcomings. Or maybe they dont like to answer to anyone but themselves and prefer the "Eat, Drink, and Be Merry" attitude that is so simple and easy to live. Or they have failed to strengthen their own testimony after being raised in the church as children against their own will. I dont know.

I did find it funny that you said "We are not anti-mormon" but the next line made it clear that you would "be open about its misrepresentations and the way in which its dogmatism and authoritarianism have proven detrimental to many individuals, families and communities". Hmmmm, sounds kind of anti mormon, but thats just how it appears to anyone who can read and write in english as well as understand the context of a writing.

By the way, I have been a member for about 17 years and have never found any of these misrepresentations that you claim to ruin families. My family is happy, healthy, and we love and care for each other. We support each other to love others and make the right decisions. What are we doing wrong? What lies am I living that is destroying myself and family? What lies/misrepresentations have you uncovered that the doctors, attorneys, businessman, authors, lawyers, and professionals that we currently have leading and guiding the church have been so foolish and ingnorant in believing?

You also said you want to keep all the good that came into your lives through Mormonism but, Im assuming, leave out the bad. That is like saying "Well, I would like to live THIS commandment but THAT one is kind of annoying and hard."

If being happy to your group means no accountability, no beliefs, no striving to improve yourself, then I think it will bring great pleasure and excitement for many years of your life.

I hope this email was not too negative but as someone who knows the truth for himself it hurts to see others turn away.

Sincerely
