Our Library includes a comprehensive listing of books that we have found helpful to those seeking truth regarding the religion known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormonism), also referred to here as The Church. Our listing contains quotes, documents, and references to historical books that will be found in The Church's own historical library in Salt Lake City, UT. We have included books that we feel are well documented and have been written by authors who are/were members of The Church at the time they wrote their books. A few books are from authors that are not and never were members of The Church; however, we feel they are worthy of inclusion here based on their thorough documentation and non-adversarial tone. They have simply presented well researched and well documented topics that are thought provoking. We have also included many books that are not directed toward the topic of Mormonism, but rather toward religion and Christianity in general. These books too are researched, compiled and written by scholars who are respected and well recognized in their fields of endeavor. Most have dedicated their lives to this research. We welcome your comments and hope you will find this listing helpful in your research regarding any topic of concern with respect to The LDS Church and religion/Christianity in general. Here's what some church leaders of the LDS Church have had to say about proving for yourselves the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and The LDS Church, in general:
- Dr. Hugh Nibley: "The Book of Mormon can and should be tested. It invites criticism." An Approach to The Book of Mormon, 1957, p. 13.
- Brigham Young: "Take up the Bible, compare the religion of the Latter-day Saints with it, and see if it will stand the test." Journal of Discourses, Volume 16, p. 46, 1873
- George Albert Smith: "If a faith will not bear to be investigated; if its preachers and professors are afraid to have it examined, their foundation must be very weak." Journal of Discourses, Volume 14, Page 216
- John Taylor: "I think a full, free talk is frequently of great use; we want nothing secret nor underhanded, and I for one want no association with things that cannot be talked about and will not bear investigation." Journal of Discourses, Volume 20, Page 264.
- Orson Pratt: "Convince us of our errors of Doctrine, if we have any, by reason, by logical arguments, or by the Word of God and we will ever be grateful for the information and you will ever have the pleasing reflections that you have been instruments in the hands of God of redeeming your fellow beings." The Seer, p. 15
- Joseph Fielding Smith: "Mormonism, as it is called, must stand or fall on the story of Joseph Smith. He was either a prophet of God, divinely called, properly appointed and commissioned, or he was one of the biggest frauds this world has ever seen. There is no middle ground." Doctrines of Salvation, Page 188.
