Why I left the Church View

Hello Everyone,

I chose to add my story as I feel that people all have a story to tell.

Let's begin, my mother's side of the Family were one of the First Saints to cross the Plains. My Great, Great (add a few more), grandfather was part of the Mormon Battalion, he was at Sutter's Creek, CA when gold was discovered. The other side of the Family were converts from Europe.

My parents were married in the SLC temple  in 1973, and proceeded to have 4 children.

When I was getting baptised, I had my first few doubts about the church. One was slipping and falling on my way into the font. The other was probably not true, but at 8, you believe your older brother, who told me our bishop offered him a beer after he was baptised.

Flash forward a few years. I was 12, and the news hit the family that my parents were getting divorced. My mother instigated the divorce after find proof that my dad was having an affair on her. The news spread like wildfire through our ward, and stake. Once the proceedings started, almost everyone's attitude changed towards my whole family.

I discovered how bad it was becoming when more and more of my friends didn't want to hang out, or tried to pressure me into going to church. I stopped going shortly after the divorce because of the way that my family was treated.

By the time I was 15, I stopped trying to go to church. I had lost all faith in a religion that was and in some cases still part of most my family. I realised that I could not practise a religion that was in my eyes very hypocritical.
