I just had my tbm wife read this, and her response is interesting. She claims the concepts presented are too complex to sort out, and she is not sure what the author is trying to convey. :slap: :duh

Did she miss the fact that the wife and kids were sitting on the back of the husband? :duh

When I read it I thought immediately of the many stories I have read of men who have left the church and how their TBM wife then threatens divorce (or in other words threatens to trade them in) or ignores them or treats them badly for their decision. As well as the part about the woman just wanting to find a man so she could have babies! :D Very TBM idea.

I agree with your comments. My wife is actually guilty of the very thing illustrated in the cartoon. I find the cartoon transparent enuff, and quite germane to our (and LDS in general) situation. She found it incomprehensible, says a lot about why she is a tbm-the church empowers her obsessive motherhood, which is her essential identification and motivation.

Oddly, she doesn't do much actual parenting, leaving most of this to me. She finds escape from the real world situation in doing obsessive amounts of genealogy research. The cult has nourished her fears and obsessions, and her pathologies. For which she is appropriately grateful! Hah!
