As a member of the church it was always assumed that it was only the church that could make you truly happy.
As postmormons, what things make you truly happy now? :)

RECOGNIZING FREEDOM! A 10% increase in pay, Sundays off to spend with loved one...I mean REALLY spend with loved ones.
I appreciate my family like never before. I do things and feel things because it is genuine not because I am "supposed" to.
I am happier than I've ever been. And did I mention I still have my bowels and head? (lame joke, sorry)

What makes me happy now are the the same things that made me happy while I was a Mormon (loved ones, family, friends)...and then some added things that I didn't have as well:
1. Freedom of expression
2. Freedom of thought
3. Freedom to research
4. Intelligent conversation
and most importantly
5. Freedom from guilt

Actually, everything in my life makes me happy now. Well, maybe that's a little too sweeping to be literally true, but it's not much of a stretch.
The little things...
like watching a movie that has a racy or steamy scene, or something silly but suggestive, and being able to enjoy it, appreciate it, laught at it, and not feel guilty;
like having the beverage of my choice instead of someone else's choice;
like reading a book that is critical of Joseph Smith, or Jesus, or the Pope, or George Bush and being able to talk about it from a rational, thinking perspective instead of out of blind acceptance;
like being able to speak up for social issues like same-sex marriage, opposition to war, discrimination on the basis of race or gender, child welfare, etc, and not worry that I may pay a price later at the Judgement Bar of God;
like waking up on Sunday morning and wondering what I'm going to do that day, rather than knowing full well that I'll be serving mightily, just like every other Sunday;
like hugging my friends (men and women alike) and not having to worry about how that might appear to others;
like watching my children wrestle issues to the ground that their age-mates haven't had to consider yet, because those issues have already been force-fed to them;
like knowing I'll never go to the temple again;
like visiting with you all and knowing that we all share this part of our journey, in spite of the myriads of pathways that led us here...and will lead us beyond.

BIG TIME DITTO! It also tickles the hell out of me to see new people come to our local post-mo meetings kind of timid :confused: and unsure -- checking us out you know. Then weeks later are beaming :D and open and so glad they found others to talk to. I can't get enough of that. Does my soul good.
Jeff
Oh, and Champagne tickles the hell out of me too.

Don't forget a change of underwear.
Just plain happy to get rid of the fear and guilt, I call fear and guilt, Mormon glue.
