I can't tell you what a relief it is to find this place - I can't wait to see how it goes as things "ramp up" as Jeff said.
I am preparing to, at long last, submit my resignation letter. I came across this page via exmormon.org, and it was like a jolt... My husband has never had real contact with the church until me, and though he tries with all his might, I don't think it's possible to understand this process until you have lived it. I am on the eastern coast, and I'm not sure I'm up to starting a group yet (at least not until my own resignation is final... I am terrified of that process) but I look forward to seeing a group start up out here in the near future.

Melissa,
Welcome to the Community! We had a group in New York City at one time but the woman heading it up moved to Puerto Rico. Since that time I've been developing this new website and haven't encouraged anyone to start another group there. But now that the website is mostly up and functioning smoothly more attention will be turned to expanding the network of groups.
Regarding the resignation process, don't be afraid of it. It's easy and painless if you follow a few basic steps. A friend has a website that helps you through the process and makes it as easy as possible. The address to that website is:
http://www.mormonnomore.com
I’ve been trying out different discussion forum formats such as the one here and will be installing the final one this weekend. It has many more features and it integrates well with the rest of the website, which primarily means that you don’t have to login to the forum separately from your login to the website. It also ties in nicely to the software used to receive donations via credit cards as well as the membership management software. Once that is in place more attention will be turned to expanding the Community network, add more content to the magazine, and a focused effort on promotion of the website will also begin. So far, if you find your way here luck plays a significant part in that happening.
The primary purpose of establishing the Post-Mormon Community and this website is to provide support and friendship to those who leave Mormonism and to bring a cohesiveness and public legitimacy to the community of former Mormons all across the world.

I too am on the east coast and was searching for an ex-mormon support group to attend. The closest one I found was in Washington D.C., which still isn't that close. I am in the same boat as you are at this point with the church. I have been inactive for almost three years, but have just now finally come to the decision that it's time to make it official. I don't need them counting me when they tally up the members here just because I never took my name off the register.
I have had that web page Jeff suggested MormonNoMore.com on my favorites for almost a year now. I guess I was stalling, but now I know it's time. But, like you, I am a tad sacred.
May God continue to guide you in truth! Take care!

Andrea,
Sorry your earlier post was missed. We'll be changing to a new forums format this weekend (if all goes well) that will mark new posts better so they aren't overlooked.
At this point I recommend that you register on this website and you'll be added to a mailing list for our newsletter. That way you can stay up to date on any new groups that form in your area and keep tabs on any other new developments in the Post-Mormon Community. We're here for you! Please keep in touch!
