I am just curious about what we all do here as jobs....

Always find it interesting knowing what other people do....guess I will start.....

Worked in academia most of my wee life - started in marine sciences and diverged into a bit of marine engineering. My main interest is the marine renewables sector (tidal, wave energy, offshore wind). I now work as an environmental consultant, working mainly for the oil and gas industry advising on environmental issues concerning the industry and the legislation that governs it. Thats about it.

I'm an editor. I've been in print production for my entire career, about 15 years, as a writer or editor. I also freelance, both editing and writing services. Yes, I'm already in discussions with Paul about helping out with the Peep Stone. (Gotta love that name!)

That, and I rescue wayward and orphaned dogs for fun.

Thats cool. One of my plans for the future is writing a novel.....I write so often on work matters, thought it would be good to do something different! :)

12 years working for a large financial corporation as a business analyst/project manager on their merger/acquisition team. Currently I work remotely from my home office. Working from home has been wonderful because it enables me to spend more time with family...no travel time, no "getting ready" time, etc, etc.

Hubby is a police officer and is day care giver to our 3 month old granddaughter on his days off. I get to spend my breaks with them. It's awesome.

I'm an Assistant Art Director for an education finance company. I design ad campaigns, collateral, and promotional materials for the company, and do freelance graphic design and illustration on the side. Also, after being involved in art of one form or another my whole life, I recently took up painting, one of the few mediums I haven't worked with yet.

My wife and I are newly-weds, and loving every minute of it! She is a Pharmacy Technician at a mail-order pharmacy, and also my painting instructor. No children yet, just our lazy sharpei-lab, Soma.

I'm currently a full time graduate student studying Counseling Psychology. Once finished with school, I plan to start a non-profit cult recovery center. My wife works for an insurance agent and we have been married just over 8 months. While I have no experience in film production or writing, I have a few ideas for movies and books that I'd like to pursue at some point.

I am a part-time astronaut, working my space ventures in between appearances on the Professional Rodeo circuit, in which I am a bull rider. I build hydro-electric dams on weekends, and have recorded a number of smash hits with the Grateful Dead (before Jerry Garcia moved on to other spheres, of course). Last week, I developed a cure for prostate cancer, and have received the Nobel prize for literature after compiling an emotional collection of erotic poetry, for which I have been named a "Whose-Who Among American Poets." I trained the original Lassie. My work with Humpback whales has been cited in numerous professional journals, as well as my recent discovery of a new isotope of Plutonium. The books, "The Work and the Glory" are based on my personal journals, for which Gerald Lund paid me handsomely, though not enough, apparently. I refered Monica Lewinsky to the Presidential intern program, and she was accepted on my word and my word alone...though in hindsight that was an unfortunate affair to be involved with (do NOT miss the pun there). I wrote the legislation establishing North Cascade National Park. I own and operate a fleet of nuclear submarines in a secret program in which I "spar" with the U.S. Navy in order to keep them "fresh." At home, I invent snack foods, of which Nacho Cheese Doritos are my most successful product, followed closely by Cheez Whiz.

And on the side, I am a Government worker in Human resources, with a BS in Geology and and MS in Metallurgical Engineering, but none of the reality of my life is nearly as interesting as my fantasies...

I'm employed as a product designer and am moving into product management. The company I work for sells handheld computers. They're fun products to design. As a product designer I'm responsible for gathering information about a particular market, see where there is a need, design a product to fill that need, then others produce and market the product.

I some ways this website is the result of such a process. I experienced a big need in myself when I left Mormonism, so after about 8 years as a post-Mormon I started a support group in Cache Valley to see if there were others who thought like me and had similar needs and sure enough, there are lots of us! So I began three years ago to design an Internet based ‘product’ to help fill that need in others -- the product you see us using here. It is so gratifying to me, you don't know how much so, to see it helping to fill the need that it was intended to. It does my soul good big time! Thank you all for being a part of it! Talk about a FUN product to design!

Good job, Jeff!

Here's a little idea for ya. You know how there's an Internet Movie Database? (Am I allowed to post the link here?) Anyway... I really need an Internet Music Database. Same concept as the movie web site except for music.

Now get to work and let me know when the beta is ready for testing...

:D

(Just kidding. Still. It's a product that needs to be developed.)

I must say I am impressed with the replies. Hmmm, pretty smart group of folk.

I am an Investment Advisor for an international financial services firm. Our US office is in NYC. I live in the Phoenix area. I have been at it for twelve years, and manage client assets as a fee for service advisor, which I love. ;)

I dont have quite the resume as Paul, but I do enjoy my work!! Paul do you think you could get me an appointment with Donald Trump? :D

Actually I'm not aware of the Internet movie database. Feel free to post a link if you like. An Internet music database would be cool!

www.imdb.com

Ever watch a movie and see some actor in a cameo who looks really familiar? You turn to whomever you're watching the movie with and say, "What movie was that guy in?" And nobody knows, so you just eat more popcorn?

Well, you can search on that movie title, an actor's name, filming locations, a whole bunch of different things. (I want to see all the movies filmed in Tallahassee, FL. Or, I want to know all the films Jonathan Demme made.) It's a really great site. I did a lot of surfing and I can't figure out who started it and how and all that. I do know that the goofs and trivia are submitted by users of the site. (What mistakes were made in Collateral Damage, besides the actual creation of the film?)

There's nothing like that for music. And there's so many genres in music that go so deeply... it would be a life time project, probably, just to collect information. I'm desperate to find a bunch of people with the right talents and create this thing so I can do searches on things like, what bands did Chrissie Hynde play with while she was living in London with The Pretenders?

Sure beats watching VH-1 all the time.

Sorry, Sponge Bob, er, Freethinker, but I fired Donald Trump in 1967, and we haven't really spoken much since. You're on your own! :D

Looks like I'm a little late to the thread, but I'll post anyway... :)

Immediately after high school I moved to SLC to start as a Computer Science major at the University of Utah and dropped out after 6 months. I then took specicialized computer networking classes and began working for a small computer company in SLC.

We moved back to Idaho four years later. After working for several companies in the area, I decided to start my own computer/internet company. I am now the President and CEO of what is now a multi-million dollar ISP (www.ida.net) in Idaho with 25 employees. I am involved in every aspect of the business, from accounting to marketing to advertising to fixing broken servers and configuring routers to climbing wireless towers. I enjoy my job, and I am probably getting close to the workaholic designation (my wife says I've been at that point for the last 6 years).

On another note, I enjoy golf, snowmobiling and spending time with my wife. ;)

I am just one of two employees at a counseling office. We do experiential Therapy rather than your traditional sit down and talk about it kind of therapy. I have seen a lot of lives changed including my own thru this process. There is a big diffence between talking about how you feel and doing something about how you feel.
I am the Marketing director, Office manager, Enrollment specialist, and I also help facilitate the group therapy sessions. Its the air I breathe some days. and also the stress in my life at other times.
