View Full Version : New look for the website

Hi everyone. On occasion inspiration and available time line up. When that happens for me I've found it best to take the ball and run with it. Today was such an occasion...and I've been running with it all day, creating a new look and format for our website. I have the home page mostly complete but all the other pages are still the original format.
The new look and format includes richer colors and a much wider, expandable page format. I like the wood texture background because to me it gives the website more of a homey look to it.
My intent is to incorporate the new look into all the pages but need your input before I move forward with it. The intent is to make the other pages fit the design and format of the page at the link below. The expandable width will be a nice change for this page, giving us more room to post.

So let me know what you think.
Jeff
Edit: By the way, the home page has a column to the right that will show all website updates. I'd like to include a subheading that shows the latest discussion forum post titles but haven't figured out how to do that yet. Maybe that can be added later.
For comparison here's a link to the original home page:

I'm a creature of habit and my first reaction was somewhat negative; however, after a good look I really like it. When it first came up I thought I'd been redirected to a TBM site (that happened to me recently at another site). I knew I was home when I saw the familiar family pop up.
I do kind of like the format for the discussion page, don't change it too much I'm kind of old and get confused easily.

I haven't been here much as I have mostly hung out at rfm but I would like to give this more of a go.
I liked the format a lot more than the old one. Seems a lot softer to me and less like the morg pages.
Cheers,
Garry.

Jeff, I like it. I'll have to admit that it threw me when I first signed on, but I'm anxious to see it continue to evolve. Keep up the good work.

I like it too. Love the colours, and the neutral scheme, also love the picture of the family. Who are they!!!
They all look so attractive!!!

I'd like to say that the family is me, my girlfriend, and our kids, but that would be kind of like a "faith promoting" lie... or like making the beak-nose, round-belly Joseph Smith look like the model you see in some of the more recent paintings of the guy. But the truth is Joe doesn't look like Brad Pitt and that family photo on the home page is a stock photo I got off the internet somewhere. If it helps, I looked for about three months until I found just the right image. I like that the family looks like a wholesome, healthy family but it's obvious that neither the man or the woman are wearing garmies. :D

I think that it looks good. You did a good job and made it much easier for people to find information.
If I am not mistaken the homepage has a shorter text now but I cannot be sure about that.
If you worked on it alone, you did wonderful work. If you were part of a team...the team did a great job!

Jeff -
Very nice choice of colors, fonts and layout. As Ausgaz said, "softer" and less Morg-like. I would add "happier."
[btw, welcome Ausgaz!]
Some post-mo's have been through terrible, hurtful times, and many of us do get riled up now and then.
But for me (and I believe many others), the overall impact of leaving the church is greater personal happiness and freedom, including an ability and openness to see the world in a new light and from new and different perspectives. I think the new page helps reflect that fresh view. Kudos, Jeff!

Same as what everyone else says, more fun!
Except the background looks kind of like the floor of the cultural hall... :) Not that this causes me any trauma or anything...

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Much appreciated! :D Over the next two or three weeks I'll be implementing the new look on the rest of the pages.

If I follow the false teachings of Paul Dunn does that make me a Dunnite? :D

Great new look, Jeff!
There's a reason that most financial institutions use the color blue; it was a wise choice. Blue is strongly associated with the sky and water, which are constants in our lives; therefore, it is a very trustworthy, dependable color. It inspires confidence...makes you feel at home. The rest of the look only supports this; the hardwood floor, the rounded edges.
Nice!
