When we first moved here to our 'hood about 6 yrs ago we were welcomed by our new LDS neighbors. No, no one helped with moving or packing, unpacking. No dinners were brought and no one helped when we laid our sod about a month after moving in. When I had surgery shortly after moving in a few meals were brought in. One member came in, threw frozen lasagne on the table at 6pm and said it would take 2 hrs to bake and she just didn't have time. I was never comfy with meals being brought in anyway but always enjoyed doing it.
Anyway, during the holidays starting with Halloween, we always received lots of treats on our doorstep.
We also got invited to lots of parties - Pampered Chef, Tupperware, books, toys, Mary Kay, etc, etc, etc.
I always went to the parties if I was available and I always tried to buy something and many times booked parties off of parties.
When I became inactive a few years ago, we still received things on our doorstep and invitations. But slowly this type of activity stopped.
I no longer got Avon book hanging on my mailbox, (damn they have great stuffing stockers!) no party invitations, and absolutely no treats on my doorstep.
And I miss this kind of stuff. Because 1-it made me feel like a part of my community. 2-I liked reciprocating (and still do) 3-it made the kids excited to get surprises.
sigh
No matter. We just do different things that make us feel part of the community. We initiate things (parties, gatherings, lunches, bowling, etc) Our Mo neighbors never come. But non members and inactives do. And we always have a real good time.
But I find it sad that we have been "shunned" by some members whom we really thought cared about us, and sincerely thought about us.
