Hi everyone!! The reason I haven't been posting for the last week or so is...

Because I'm buying a house!

YAY!

It was a bit sudden, too. I'd been looking for a house this time last year, like a 3-month full time job. Then after having too many houses sell the day I looked at them, and after yet another offer had been rejected, I decided to take a while off to save up more money and see if the market got better.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to see how the market was doing, and became very dismayed, because house prices had gone up another 10%-20%. Since I'm not getting 10% increases in income every year, I figured I'd missed my chance. The perfect time to buy in Seattle was 3 years ago, and I didn't even live here then.

But there was this one house way out in the middle of nowhere I decided to see. But it wasn't the house for me, being in the middle of nowhere and way too expensive at that.

My realitor, who has been ever so patient with me, sent me a list of properties. I didn't expect to find anything, since I'd already searched, and his lists don't always meet my criteria, but there was one house that looked ok. We saw it last Saturday, and it met with most of my criteria, and wasn't too expensive -- relatively. ;) And it's a craftsman style house with a lot of charm, 72 years old.

Having learned my lesson in the past, I went ahead and placed an offer on it right then, knowing that if I found anything wrong I could still back out.

The inspection was completed two days ago, and the seller agreed to fix all we found wrong -- about $4000 worth of items.

That was the last thing I was waiting for before announcing it to the whole world! I know it can still fall through but it's about as done a deal as it can be prior to closing. I'm so excited!

The tricky part is telling my family. Since my parents have been stalkerish in the past, I've tried to hide where I live. Right now they're not even sure what county I live in. If I announce I've bought a house, there will be all these questions, blah blah blah. And it's Christmas, and I'll be visiting, so how can I NOT tell them?

Hey Luna, I hope all goes well. Maybe I could be your moving buddy on this. We could swap notes etc lol

We are just about to move to a beautiful house in a tiny little village with just 40 kids at the local school, which happens to be opposite a cattle yard.

Our back garden has 5 miles of beautiful views to farmland and distant downs. We took our family on a hike the other day, past the old church and into the woodland which just confirmed to us that we were doing the right thing!

The house needs a LOT of work, it is a project, but we have got it at a really good price because of that.

I am so excited and busy planning the layout etc.

This is the first house that we have actually chosen together as husband and wife, since my hubbie and his twin brother chose our current house (where we live now) since I was busy working out of town and only getting here on the weekends!!!

That sounds so nice!! Such a great house in such ancient lands. It sounds inherently magical.

My house is "old" at 72 years. :) They say in Europe, 300 miles is a long distance... In America, 300 years is a long time. ;)

72 years!!!! oooh you beat us hands down, ours was built in the late 60's, early 70's. It was the school, primary and secondary, and the amazing views that sold us!!!!! as well as being 30 minutes nearer to my mum.

This is a beautiful country though, a lot more countryside than one might assume from the small area high population statistics.

Do you have a moving date yet? We should have been in by now, but there was suspected subsidence, but this has now been cleared by a structural engineer and arboriculturalist!!! !

Good for us because it put a lot of people off.
Mary

Hubby still wants to move out to Aussie though!!!!

I don't get to move in for another month. :( I get the house on the 20th, and I'll probably do some work on it first, and move in around the 31st.
