Hey everyone. If I used the old cliche "long time reader, first time writer", I'd be lying. I stumbled on this site only recently, but I've liked what I've seen so far. I was going to introduce myself several weeks ago one night while bored at work, but halfway through, everything hit the fan and I had to postpone it. But now, I'm back at work, bored, so let's hope that things stay quiet for a while...

Anyways, a little about me: I'm 24, and a PostMo living in Salt Lake City. I was born and raised in the church, and have lived almost my whole life within 50 miles of Salt Lake. I am an RM, although I now refer to my 2 years in Brazil as a "sabbatical" instead. I've technically only been a PostMo for about 3 years now, although things were leading up to that since the time I was 15. I come from a "famous" church family in Salt Lake. It's not one of the big names that everyone equates with church leadership, but at least one person in every ward/stake/temple I've ever visited knows one of my close relatives. My entire family is Mormon (or at least pays lip service to it), and I'm the only one that is a stated PostMo. It's a fun world to live in, though. Walking away from the church was the best thing I ever did. But I'll share my whole story later, for anyone that cares to read it.

Other than that, I'm a pretty boring guy. I'm a grad of the School of the Prophets (i.e. U of U) in economics, and am headed to Law School next fall. I read history books, discuss philosophy, and program web pages and do other nerdy computer stuff in my spare time.

So stop in and say hello. I hope to become an active part of this community, and am hoping to be able to gain (and offer) some good insight on the wacky worlds of Utah and Mormonism in general.

While the moon wanes and waxes, death and taxes are lurking out there. But life is grand, love is real, and beauty is everywhere." - Roger Clyne

Welcome friend! I have to admit I am curious about your story.

Love the signature man. It is obvious that your departure from mormonism has darkened your mind. :D

As I've read through a lot of stories on this and other websites, I'm always intrigued by the wide variety of experience contained within them. It never comes down to the two church-acknowledged reasons for leaving the church: namely sin or laziness. There are always so many factors involved that I can't help but understand the humanity of the people that write them. That said, I'm still deciding just HOW to formulate my story. Though I've told bits and pieces of it to lots of people, I am yet to sit down and analyze it from the beginning to where it is now. Maybe that will give me something to do while bored out of my mind here.

And yes, that my mind has been darkened is evidenced by my quoting of Roger Clyne lyrics. A lot of his songs involve talk about enjoying a good drink or the company of a pretty woman or some of the other finer things in life. They've come to be somewhat of an anthem for the way I want to live life. It's a refreshing break from the way I grew up :D

Welcome! I'd like to hear your story!

I am always so excited to see members get out while they are young. Ahhhh it's so refreshing.

Spending 30+ yrs in it (I was a convert, argh) I am envious.
