Joseph Smith and all of his successors must have a copy of this book.

After reading " Rough Stone Rolling" I am more convinced than ever that JS took advantage of those around him.
It is kinda sad really. I feel for those people who were so stooped in guilt and shame. Not all of them of course, but enough to make it sad.
I am not sure if church leaders are aware of what they are doing. I suppose many never stop to think about it. They are convinced they are doing the Lords work. To me, and this is just my opinion, mormonism is fear based not love based.
I loved the cartoon.

I agree that many tbms believe they are doing the Lord's work, especially when they are interacting with one another, e.g. service projects for one another. At that level I doubt that anyone in tscc ever thinks about doing anything based on fear or guilt.
I think the fear/guilt comes in when family/personal needs conflict with church callings and the member feels guilt/fear that they won't receive the blessing they have instore for them if they do not fullfil their calling. Not to mention the "stinkeye" they get from their so called leaders if they should fail to carry out expected assignments.
When family needs get in the way of church callings something generally has to be placed on a back burner and I doubt that it is callings that get the backseat with most tbms. Thus, family relations and interactions are lost, or, at least, weakened. This, of course, opens the door for disfunction within the family. BUT, if you are carrying out your callings, as the Lord expects, all else will be well in Zion. Yea, right. :duh

Great cartoon! Interesting how it points out that "we all have our roles in life." And everyone in a specific role is supposed to play that role perfectly, be subserviant to their leaders (read: superiors), and be completely happy with it. That sounds very Calvinistic to me, does it to you?
And I'm with you guys, I think that only a very few are in a postion where they knowingly take advantage of others and that most TBMs are full of nothing but good intentions. But, in my mind, good intentions count for very little when you haven't excercised a reasonable amount of caution before dedicating your life to a cause. Maybe those that CHOOSE to be ignorant and accept everything, even the most ridiculous things, that church leaders throw at them DO need a self-help guide on how to be more easily exploitable.

Very Good Point IMHO.
