Has anyone heard anything about the new movie “September Dawn”
Maybe this is old. The movie is apparently in the process of being filmed.

“September Dawn" is being touted as "a love story set during a tense encounter between a wagon train of settlers that faces off against a renegade Mormon group."
OH, the settlers were massacred by a RENEGADE Mormon group. RIGHT! My Mormon spin alert just went off. Some times my skepticism gets the best of me. Maybe it’s just a plain old “movie”. The profit did say “Well, we have nothing to hide. Our history is an open book. They may find what they are looking for, but the fact is the history of the church is clear and open and leads to faith and strength and virtues”.
Having become a “Skeptic” I find it difficult to now enjoy a movie which has a lot of pretend or something that is far from being in the reality realm. My TBM wife dragged me to see one of the Harry Potter movies, afraid I was not a very good date and I fell asleep.

Hey Skeptic
John Voight is going to play a lead role in this. He is one of my favorites. Loved him in " Runaway Train" .
I dont think the church has anything to do with this production. I think this movie is going to make some waves.
The mormon church will never be able to distance itself from polygamy or Mountain Meadows. Hypocrisy always makes good news and great theatre.

IMDB has an entry, but it's not too helpful yet:

FT,
What is the timing for this movie? When should it be released?
All movies sit in the context of public consciousness. Just look at the various versions of King Kong to see that old stories get reinterpreted in a context of current sopcietal concerns and sensitivities.
So in the post-911 context of sensitivity to religious extremism (in all its forms - Muslim and Christian), I suspect there is plenty of room for a Jewish screenwriter (aren't many) to elicit parallels between that September event of more recent excesses.
Personally, I would love to see Mormonism's Shadow exposed in such a way that it can't duck and weave. In my favourite fantasy, the Federal Government would order a major forensic investigation of the site, and all the ugly truth to out once and for all.

Sorry, was that sarcasm? There are LOTS of Jewish screenwriters :) To the point where it's a cliche...
The most famous include Woody Allen, The Cohen Brothers, and Charlie Kaufman.

FT,
Thanks. Interesting that the movie starts from not even a dispute about who did the massacre; the Indians not even getting a mention in the film synopsis. I regard that as a good start.
It will be interesting to see how Cain handles the 'renegade Mormon' issue. It might be a safe strategy, but still make a powerful point. I was not aware until reading some of that material linked to the web site, just how much documentary footage has been shot on the issue. It clearly still has plenty of charge, and will likely remain so until the Church makes a clean breast of it. Of course the anger re the Church's muddying of the picture must get worse the longer their tactics persist.
To say you give a s#it, whilst persisting in covering the ample audit trail, hardly smacks of sincerity.
The way I see it, even if the film does not nail the Church and Young directly, by naming the paranoid mindset that fuels fundies, it will exact a price on MoInc. It and its members are substantially fundy with a seige/superiority/inferiority mentality - the very mindset that increases the possibility of tragedies like this.
