This is very sad. I am so sorry for them and their families.

"Heidbrink says the crime was not racially or religiously motivated. He tells KSL the missionaries were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Now how are they going to interpret that one? Either God wanted them back for a mission in heaven... or they were doing something wrong...

I was in places at times in the mission field where something like this could have happened. I feel very bad for their families.
It is always sad to see young people killed doing what they think is right. I hope there will be some consolation for their families.

Considering the rough neighborhoods that the church chooses to place these young men, many of whom are from small rural communities who are not aware of the potential dangers of the big city, it is suprising there are not more deaths. Perhaps the church needs to start teaching the Elders basic street smarts as well as self defense instead of B-Ball. The church acts as if God and all his angels will magically protect the missionaries from coming to any harm. Perhaps this incident will cause some parents to wake up to the reality of the dangerous situations that the church puts their kids in with little to no consideration for their safety.
Perhaps the church could provide Elders with cell phones so that they can call 911 if they find themselves in a dangerous situation.

Sorry - I corrected my title. It had said 2 were killed. Only one was and the other shot and is in the hospital. They witnessed a shooting and the gunman shot them. sigh.
