"Words will not ever be able to express my sorrow and my profound regret for all my actions and mistakes," Abramoff said. "I hope I can merit forgiveness from the Almighty and those I've wronged or caused to suffer."

Anyone else find this guys "heartfelt" plea for forgiveness from the "Almighty" a bit distasteful and offensive? :Puking

Anyone have any sense of how the Republican fallout of Abramoff's confessions is playing in Utah? I noticed that Chris Cannon gave back some money to Abramoff, but not the money Abramoff helped him obtain from the NA tribes.

Do Mormons and Christians feel duped by these men who used the cloak of religion to give them a patina of respectability while hiding their true nature? Hmm why does that sounds familiar... :duh

Is there anyway the Republicans can recover from this blow before the 06 elections?

It is a shame that an entire party is being tainted by the actions of a few fanatics. It periodically happens, sometimes with religion, sometimes with other sources, but it's despicable in any case. Can the GOP recover from this by the 2006 elections? Unless the Dems actually start putting together a coherent party and individual strategy, they won't NEED to recover from anything to win votes. It seems to me like a case of the unethical versus the incompetant sometimes. No matter who wins, everyone loses.
