Quotes from RfM
But he has no problem making boatloads of cash from beer sales at the Delta Center.
He has a problem with a beautiful movie, its story centered on loving themes, but he will play Hostile, a movie depicting human beings being tortured and killed. What's wrong with Mormons?

I definately want to se this movie. I hear it is great. I am sure it is very difficult for some in the Utah Valley to come to terms with the FACT That homosexuality is innate.
Give them some time I guess. I think about 100 more years might get them close.

"but he will play Hostile, a movie depicting human beings being tortured and killed"
It's Hostel - and just seeing the trailer for it last week made me feel sick and tainted.
But whatever. More business for Salt Lake's well deserving Broadway theatre.

Background: I hate to use this word in mixed company, but in certain circles, I am what is known as a "fag hag." This is usally a fat chick, but since I tend to buck stereotypes... A fag hag is a straight woman who hangs out with a lot of gay men. Typically, it's a fat-chick virgin who lives vicariously through her male friends' lives. Fag Hags are known for trying to fix up their gay friends with each other, as if they need help. (I never did any fixing up, nor was I an overweight, dateless virgin. I just happened to be open-minded enough to not have issues being friends with a gay person. By associating with him, I ended up having a lot of gay friends who bestowed upon me the title of "Fag Hag." One gay friend promoted me to "Honorary Gay Man." Whatever.)
True Story: I was in Ohio visiting the Parental Units. Dad's driving us somewhere and I'm talking about something I had done with my friend Chuck, who was also my housemate at the time and who also happens to be at least as queer as a $3 bill. This is almost exactly the conversation I had with the folks:
Male Parental Unit: So tell us... why is Chuck gay?
:: silence :: Dogzilla thinks, "He can't be serious."
Dogzilla: Um. I dunno. Why are you straight?
MPU: Well, when did he decide to be gay?
Dz: He didn't ever decide to become gay. Who would choose that kind of ostracism and rejection from normal mainstream society? Nobody wants that. He knew he was gay since he was a little kid. He tried to be straight and even dated some girls, but they just didn't do it for him. He finally came out in college and has been happier ever since, being true to himself.
MPU: Well, doesn't he care that God condemns gays?
Dz: Why is that any of my business? I haven't had this conversation with him because that's between him and his god. I don't know what he was taught about religion and frankly, I don't ask people that sort of question. How rude. What I believe is that God made all his children and gay people are god's children too. Unless Satan has some powers of creation that I haven't been told about...
MPU: So you and Chuck think that people are born gay? And God made him that way?
Dz: Sure, why not?
Female Parental Unit: Why would God make people gay?
Dz: I dunno. You're asking me to speculate on God's intentions? I'm supposed to know why he makes people left-handed or right-handed or straight or gay?
Both parental units:
I think there was some discussion about how gay men decide who will play which role in the relationship, a la "who's the girl?" line of stupid questioning, but that could have been in another conversation. I answered that one with, "Well how do you and your wife decide who's going to be on top? I imagine the gay people have the same conversation." They just can't wrap their little brains around the fact that gay people conduct their relationships just like everybody else.
I can't look at the title of that film without thinking, "Bareback Mounting." :D It makes me giggle.

Sheeesh. See, I can't help but feel the church and it's members are trying to use CONTROL to force people to "obey". Whether they are members or not.
This goes against everything I was taught as a Mo.
I heard Hostel is very sick and twisted...very gruesome, so gruesome and disgusting that even on the commercials we are told many viewers become ill during the movie.
I don't like any movie being pulled. The sweet thing about TV, movies, etc, etc, etc, is there is choice involved. You go, you don't go. You change channels or you turn it off. Duh.
What does this say about LHM? For him to support this I would think would be a bad business call. Is he anti-gay?
I am sure he has enough $$ to not worry his little balding head over this but I sure lost what little respect I had for him.
Enought that no one will see me and my family doing business with him anymore.
Hey, Yikes! Isn't Jordan Landing open on SUNDAYS???

Okay, a brief coment on The Hostel. This is a Quentin Tarantino flick. Ergo, you can expect violence and gore. Not interested, don't go see it.
Kill Bill, both parts I and II, were also grossly violent. Those movies were an homage to Tarantino's favorite old Kung Fu movies.
In The Hostel trailers, where they say some people have gotten ill... Tarantino is clearly paying tribute to the old creepy, gory B-movies from the 1950's. Is anyone here old enough to remember those trailers? Some of the exact same language was used, "Don't see this movie if you're pregnant!" It's just classic Tarantino hype.
I will probably go see The Hostel simply because I like picking up rocks to see what creepy crawlies come slithering out into the light of day. Tarantino fascinates me as possibly one of the sickest humans on the planet right now. I can't wait to see what nonsense he's cooked up this time. It's like going back to rent Peter Jackson's first two films. They are so tasteless and violent, even I couldn't watch all of it.
That said, I still refuse to see The Passion of The Mel Gibson's Christ. Why does the violence in that bother me, when the violence in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre bothers me not at all?
Why is nonstop bloody gory violence okay when a little bit of booby in the shot is not at all? It doesn't matter if Bareback Mounting is about gay men at all... as soon as there's SEX in it, it'll be banned. The cowboys could probably carve up little children and cook them for dinner, and that would be okay as long as nobody has any sex and there's no nudity.
The "family values" in this country are so f**ed up, I can't even make sense of any of this.

From a random post on the Huffington Post:
"Utah is very touchy about gay issues because of the amazing amount of Mormons who grow up to be gay. Utah goes way above the call of duty in producing cute, eager gay boys! No other state can compete with the Utah numbers, because no religion is more adept at creating gay folk than the LDS!
I thank them for the sweet guys they add to the mix, the proclivity for western wear, and if they don't want to show Brokeback, that's fine! They have done more than enough to bring diversity and numbers to the gay community, and they show no sign of slowing down. My guess is it is that strange underwear they are into that does it, but whatever it is, thanks for doing it. What could be more wholesome or natural?!?"

Veering a little off-topic...
Hostel was written and directed by Eli Roth, and "presented" by Tarantino. So strictly speaking, it's not a Tarantino film.
And as for the trailer, have you seen it? There is nothing campy B-movieish about it. I don't know what you mean by "the exact language is used." When I saw it, the film hadn't opened yet and I'd heard nothing about it. And I felt sick and creeped out in a way that doesn't usually happen with your typical "Kill Bill" fare.
So give me Brokeback Mountain over Hostel any day!

It amazes me that the FCC says it is ok to show trailers like the one for Hostel but had a major cow over Janets brief nipple flash. The scenes shown in the trailer for FCC are ten times more offensive to human dignity than people seeing Janet's nipple.

He might have been directed from on high. I wouldn't be suprised if some person high up in the church didn't tell him to pull the movie. Perhaps BKP?

This made breakfast news here this morning, bacause the movie has an Australian lead, and was reported as 'conservative Mormon Utah and some theatres in Washington state'
I commented to my good lady, that Utah Mos have an interesting time ahead when they lose majority and can't stuff their conservative agenda down non-members throats any more.

I think so.
['nuther hijack]
I saw Rob Zombie, I think, on The Osbournes. Ozzy was doing a photo shoot for an upcoming tour or something and I believe he and White Zombie were headlining, so Rob Zombie was there as well. When the cameras were snapping, he was all Grrrr! and such, playing up his creepy/sick thing. When the cameras were off of him, he stood behind Ozzy and giggled at everything he said, like the big geek he is.
Now Brett Easton Ellis... there's a sicko.
And yeah, firefly, I know Tarantino only produced it, but probably because of all the gore and violence. Anyway, different strokes, ya know. I've seen the trailer and I will probably wait for the Netflix version, but yeah, it's on my list. Right up there with Saw II. I love creepy, sick, violent, gory movies. Except The Passion of Mel Gibson.

Last Friday Larry Miller, who owns Jordan Commons, told NPR station KCPW why the theater would be showing the movie.
Larry Miller, Jordan Commons Megaplex Owner, Friday, KCPW Interview: "I think it's something that I have to let the market speak to some degree and not consider myself, cause I don't think I'm qualified to be the community censor."
But shortly after that, an hour before it's first showing, the Megaplex dropped the movie, citing only a "Change in Booking." Now advocates for the gay community want an explanation.

If the church and it's members continue to force control how will they ever know who is really loyal? If choices are continued to be taken away then how will the church know which members are the most "true and faithful"?
Just thinking out loud.
This has really bothered me. I am soooo sick of this kind of stuff in Utard. Mixing business with religion is just wrong and a stupid move.
I don't get what these kind of Mos are so damned afraid of.

The most silly part of this link was this:
Gayle Ruzicka, President, Utah Eagle Forum: "It's about adultery, it's about deceiving and lying to your wife and your children. And I guess Larry decided he was sick of it and didn't want to promote it."
I couldn't stop laughing. Seriously, what a stupid comment.
Gayle better take a look at the history of the movies that have been played there not to mention what is currently playing there...many R rated ones. I am sure there's a bare boobie here and there. Guess that's okay.
If any of you all see me running down the street naked, pulling out my hair and yelling "save me, save me" please throw me a blanket and put me on the next bus out of here.

As a fellow Utard, we had the same reaction when we heard Gayle Ruzicka's comments on the news. We almost fell off our chairs laughing. Perhaps Gayle hasn't gotten out very much lately. At least not to the Jordan Commons theaters.

Well, maybe LHM isn't qualified to be a community censor. But I wonder if he didn't get a call from a friendly local authority "reminding" him of the position of the church on this, and his duties as a church member to uphold those positions. Perhaps he just gave into someone that he thinks IS qualified as a community censor.

An interesting opinon regarding why this movie is so scary:
http://www.sltrib.com/ci_3381236
If it was a movie about two females, hey, I bet LHM would be the first to see it. Chick on chick...you gotta love it.
This has stirred up thoughts as to why the church's focus seems to mostly be on male homosexuality. hmmmmm Even in homosexuality, the females are still not as important.

And, IMO, here is a stupid opinion:
http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,635175349,00.html
This guy has blinders on. Of course it's LHM's right to do what he wants. But let's talk about his hypocrisy. Why play Mr. Moral with THIS movie when he has no problem showing torture and suffering, sex, nudity, drugs, etc, etc, etc.
Sure it's his choice but why take the choice away from others?
