I am listening to the book "The World is Flat." It talks about access to information as being one of the great flatteners. It made me think about how the church is getting flattened by the internet.

" Rough Stone Rolling" would never have been written and published by an active member ten years ago. Bushman would have been subject to a disciplinary counsel.

Now the church history department is asking him to write this historical biography. No question the internet had some influence on that.

I also listened to Friedman's book, and thought the exact same thing. Dang, I wish we could get a handle on the number of people leaving the church, and their primary source of info that assisted them in their departure.

The book also mentions friction makers such as governments and religions that push back on the forces trying to flatten the world. I think the church fits that role as well.
