'Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people,
Living for today.

'Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too.
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace.

'Imagine no possessions.
I wonder if you can.
No need for greed or hunger--
A brotherhood of man.
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world.

'You may say I'm a dreamer,
But I'm not the only one.
I hope someday you'll join us,
And the world will be as one.'"

This was one of those songs that I thought was downright offensive when I was a Mormon, and then when I flopped out, and heard it for the first time as Lennon intended it to be heard, it took on a whole other meaning...one which I found I could relate to almost entirely.

Odd how those blue-tinted glasses of John's made everything muddy looking as long I wore the rose-tinted ones of Mormonism...you can't see through both sets of glasses at the same time...

Leave it to the mormons to suck the beauty out of such a sincere and hopeful song!

Hey Mary, what part of England are you in?
I spent a semester in Liverpool when I was in grad school. Loved it. Wish I could have stayed longer. Never could pick up skouse though!
I actually stayed in Penny Lane, in a bedsit on Halstead Rd. Some of the old timers in the neighborhood had known John and Paul. Seemed like everyone was in a band. I miss it!

Sounds about as appealing as...oh, I don't know...the United Order. ;)

IIMYH,
As it turns out, I was already out of the church when I was in Liverpool, which was waay back in 1989/90. I can't believe it's been so long. I was at the University as an exchange student (or as you british like to say, a "visiting scholar" which just sounds so much cooler ;) ) My fondest memories aren't of school though, but the trip I took thru the Lake District and Scotland, and down to Bath, and pub crawling around Liverpool with friends. Love that place. What town are you in?

Ifitmakesyouhappy, I was in Liverpool in 81/82 or thereabouts.

David, the Lake District is beautiful. Ambleside has now become very commercialised though with a constant stream of traffic. Windemere is similar.

I live quite close to Bath at the moment, and have a bro in law that teaches at the university there.

One of my favourite places is Glencoe in Scotland. Very breathtaking...

The Peaks, and the New Forest are also very beautiful...

Take care
Mary
