View Full Version : Church trying to flood internet with prolds websites

From Bishop Rick on RfM
The MORG is mounting an Internet offensive.

It was noted recently on this board that when one googles "mormon", a paid advertisement for the "More Good Foundation" (MGF) appears. This foundation is located in Orem, and its purpose is to flood the Internet with inter-linked pro-mormon websites so that anything critical to the Church is buried below the pro-mormon sites. The president of the foundation is apologist Allen L Wyatt and the MGF website has a video of Daniel C. Peterson commenting on the MGF charter.

I suspect that the MGF is a front that is funded indirectly by tithing money, but it might be privately funded. More than 200 domain names were recently purchased by the MGF, and the foundation offers to buy and help with the development of any pro-lds site that a TBM wants to build. A recent meeting at the foundation featured a lecture by the LDS Church's coordinator of websites.

The members-only section of the site contains links to information on how to "cheat" search-engines so that your site comes up higher when someone does a search. The foundation is also working with an Orem-based search-engine optimization marketing firm . There is also an effort to publish pro-mormon sites in different languages.

What follows is a listing of the websites that were recently purchased by the MGF. Notice how they nearly all have the same links on them. All of them link to the main pro-LDS sites. When Google indexes these sites, it increases the ratings of the pro-LDS websites.

Note also that domains such as "antimormonism.com" and "debunkingmormonism.com" have been purchased. This reminds one of the ploy used by the Church of Scientology when it infiltrated, bankrupted, and purchased the Cult Awareness Network, one of its biggest critics. Scientology now owns the Cult Awareness Network!

Somehow I just can't get that worked up about what these paranoid F#@krs are doing to try and stop the truth. I didn't find my way here or to other sites by googling, someone told me about the site. I don't think I'm all that unique. How many of us had to search the web to find a site like this one?

They may slow down the exodus a little, but Ole Joe knew what he was talkin about when he (or someone else) said that many would fall into disbelief in the latter days. He knew he would be found out sooner of later.

The flywheel of truth is beginning to pick up momentum and a few cooKoos like those idiots in Orem aren't going to stop the momentum...they may slow it a little, but they won't stop it. IMHO, of course :D

The control freaks are at it again.

They couldn't be hurting could they?? :duh

The thing that disturbs me about this is how Orwellian it seems. It's like having a million doors in front of you that all lead to exactly the same place. It's like being in this old flight simulator game I used to play where you could fly across the country, but it was all the same thing: a flat, featureless horizon.

What they've done is taken all the meaning out of the language surrounding Mormonism. Some of those URL's could be interesting and lead to new stuff. But instead, it's just the same dang thing, over and over. It's like taking a bunch of television channels and filling them with white noise. They're so afraid of language being used against them that they choose to take all the meaning out of language - thus, they can't use it themselves and Mormonism stagnates even more than it has already.

They've destroyed their language trying to protect it.

You're so right...and it's so common. I remember when the Priesthood manuals "Prophets for our Time" (or whatever they're called) came out, thinking that finally we would break away from the same old cycle of the same old stuff. But they didn't. They recycled all the same topics, and just found quotes from that year's prophet to say the same thing, week after week, month after month, year after year. Nothing that they said that was interesting or controversial (and goodness KNOWS Brigham said his share of controversial and interesting things...), just the same, tired message.

It's like your room of many doors, all with such interesting possibilities on the other side, but utterly unrealized when you open them and find they all lead you in a circle, right back to the same room of doors.

Well, I've started to see the social order aspect of religion lately. I think it is very true that religion can give a person a real sense of committment and meaning, and that leads to well-behaving citizens.

I was watching 21 Grams tonight - great picture. There's Del Toro's character who had been in and out of prison all his life until he found Jesus. Then Jesus and the sense of trancendence Del Toro's character got out of his belief helped him make his life more constructive.

Of course, the interesting part of the story comes when he accidentally kills a family with the truck that Jesus gave him. You get to watch him wrestle with what Jesus' role was in that accident and what that means. Very powerful stuff.

I"ve been thinking lately about the stories we tell. I'm starting to be able to appreciate stories for their beauty rather than their truth (of course, if we're in bed with Oscar Wilde, we may not be able to tell the difference). Of course, the people who bought up all these URL's are trying to direct the world to a story they love. And it certainly has its merits. What I wish they'd do is TELL me their stories. Instead of letting someone else do it for them.

But then again, how else are professional storytellers going to keep their jobs?

By the way P_M, you spelled acquired incorrectly in your sig line. Dogzilla's probably pulling her hair out trying not to notice.

For the record, neither the abovementioned misspelling, nor the subsequent "correction" has escaped my notice.

The Mohammed cartoon issue comes to mind as well as the all the murders, deception, lies, dishonesty, abuse and rude behavior committed by people who just want to promote their stories. I’m sure you agree that not all stories should be told but I felt like I needed to post a follow-up for anyone who might think otherwise.
