I am trying to research the Mountain Meadow Massacre but am having a hard time finding a good website describing what happened. I'm sure someone out there has a good link....could you post it here?
Thanks
Michelle

I've never run across more than a smattering of information on-line regarding the MMM, but there are many good books that deal with the topic. Will Bagley's "Blood of the Prophets" is quite good, and Juanita Brooks' "The Mountain Meadows Massacre" is a classic. In addition, there is Sally Denton's "American Massacre: The Tragedy at Mountain Meadows, Sept 1857," but I haven't read that one and can't vouche for it.

I agree, Blood of the Prophets was very good and informative. I found it at my local library.

Try http://frank.kirkman.com/MMM/Massacre01.htm
The links page off there provides a wide range of resource material from numerous perspectives.
What I find interesting about the MMM was how keen Utard was to see the skeletal remains buried when they stumbled across some a few years back. I compare that with the very thorough examination of the whole Battle of Little Big Horn site a few years back when a fire stripped all the grass from the scene.
From piecing together all the evidence, bullet projectiles, casings, items of uniform bones.... everything, they were able to piece together what went on with great detail.
Maybe this subject material did not constitute "honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous" or "virtuous (gets a lot of mention that one! ;) ) lovely, or of good report, or praiseworthy".
Mormonism has never worked out that what you try to suppress and hide will bite you on the arse every time!
Now MMM is a ripe subject for some movie maker to sink their teeth into. Bring it on!

Krakauer makes this point well in his book. It is, as you say, evidence that the church will go to any length to cover up ugliness in it's past, and present. Thankfully, becasue there are men like William Law, and etc., they will always be called to account. I think this web site will serve that function quite well. The folks who set this up, and those who are members, will be watchful for ecclesiastical atrocity, minor and major! It is interesting though, that, "THE KINGDOM OF GOD ON EARTH", should have to be watched so closely.
