This arrived from a Post-Mo friend a few days back:

My recent post was about a rumor that the church was doing away with garments and instead giving people a card with the symbols on it. I doubt this will come to pass. It would require a major overhaul of the temple ceremony. The garments are meant to resemble the garments God made for Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The washing and anointing ceremony is connected to receiving the garments. Perhaps the symbol card can be carried when you can't wear the garments? But if you can't wear the garments for sporting activities then you probably don't want to be carrying a wallet with the card in it either. If the church did away with garments they might as well do away with the temple.
