I loved:
" The LDS message has found a ready audience in Latin America and the South Pacific, where Mormon missionaries can tell people God did not neglect them. The Book of Mormon is the story of a Hebrew family that migrated from Jerusalem to the New World and tells of a visit to their descendants by Jesus Christ after his resurrection."
Little wonder they lose 70-80% of converts.
Competing religions must love DNA science to drive a huge wedge into that 'magical thinking' world view.
Old Jo and his fibs have a lot to answer for.
Great to see these research finding are pretty much in alignment with various post-mo calculations. Things must be getting interesting over in downtown SLC, as they try to figure why the SDAs are whoppin' their butts!

Don't the SDAs have a similar message to the LDS in that they say traditional Christianity went astray and we are restoring the truth. This is why they worship on the Seventh Day or Saturday which was the traditional Hebrew Sabath rather than the Pagan holy day Sunday. They try to attract Christians by saying they are more correct than other Christian religions but they don't go so far as creating an American Scripture. I don't think there is much appeal for a religion that has even more scriptures for people to read. It is hard enough to get through the Bible without falling asleep and walking away dazed and confused. Who would want more of that? Especially when it is starting to sound crazier than ever.

But you'll notice that they do toss in a few morsels to keep the faithful happy:
"But to try and tell us about the future is risky business. What if all of a sudden China or India lets us in and the [missionary] work takes off?"
if [Mormon growth] has slowed a little, it can always speed up again."

Haha, yeah, those little tidbits gave me a chuckle.
For the faithful, it kind of doesn't matter anyway, because when the church is growing, that is evidence that it's true, because God's work is going forward and covering the earth. And when the church ISN'T growing, that is evidence that it's true, because Satan is working hard to fool even the elect.
I am just glad to see this "fastest growing church" myth finally get questioned.
Of course seeing that the SDAs and JWs are more successful than the Morg does not exactly warm my heart.

"Already there are more Mormons than Jews," he says, "and we want to consider Judaism a major world religion."
:Puking :Puking :Puking
Wikipedia and other sources put the number of world wide Jews at 13-18 million.
What if Hitler hadn't murdered 6 million Jews 60 years ago?
Is that Stark guy mormon?
