Does anyone know anything about this.?? I ask because, the Stake Pres's son,who I used to date, once told me that a GA had told his dad that if he kept on going that he would have his calling and election made sure... Even the SP was a little confused about what this meant????

This is one of those "fun" points of Mormon doctrine. Here, I'll quote from Bruce R. McConkie in Mormon Doctrine (see Mutleydog, this is why I keep these books around!)

"Those members of the Church who devote themselves wholly to righteousness, living by every word that proceedeth :Puking forth from the mouth of God, make their calling and election sure. That is, they receive the more sure word of prophecy, which means that the Lord seals their exaltation upon them while they are yet in this life." In other words, they are told while still alive that they have done enough to warrant admission to the Celestial Kingdom and eternal exaltation.

Joseph Smith taught that once Christ appeared to you and said, basically, "you're in," then you can quite literally do no wrong, save "denial of the Holy Ghost, or the shedding of innocent blood." This has resulted in a number commical anecdotes, where somewhat senile old High Priests are chasing people off their properties with shotguns, but fearing nothing because as long as they don't actually kill the trespasser, they are still assured of their exaltation...they have had their calling and election made sure. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. I've heard those stories from these old men!

It should come as no surprise that the first person we know of for whom this special blessing was reserved, was the Prophet Joe himself, who in D&C 132 is told that he would be a god. Didn't matter how many wives he took that were already married, how many printing presses he had destroyed, how much he lied about whatever it was he was hiding from...he was God's Golden Boy, and his mansion was prepared in heaven. He would be the God of a minor planet, and all those who were sealed to him in this life would be ministering angels. And he KNEW that because his calling and election were made sure. He had the Second Comforter.

I wouldn't hold my breath for this particular blessing if it were me....

Paul are you sure that it was his " calling and election" made sure? I think it was his " calling and ERECTION" made sure! :D And many times over I might add!!

The confusion may not have been around the notion of Calling and Election Made Sure, which is a good old Mormon chestnut, BUT what was meant by "If he kept going!". Mormonism probably should manufacture and market a treadmill with the tradename Calling and Ellection Made Sure, which brain dead/faith motivated Mormons could get onto and pound away the miles, in the vain hope that they are drawing closer to some illusionary point when IT is made sure.

The whole MoMachine works upon the illusion that Salvation lies just beyond the next horizon. More the fools that buy the idea!

I have heard that the Mo GA's have a special little reward for very special members called The Second Endowment. If you totally dedicate yourself to the church to the point that they figure that you are an incoruptable corporate Mo (you will do anything asked of you by CA's, ANYTHING!), you receive a special invite from on high (GA's) to receive this endowment at which point the CHURCH will transfer money, property, etc to your personel holding, to hide it. Of course with the understanding that it will be transfered back to the church whenever they ask or if you die. Could this be 'Your calling and election Made Sure'? Well, at lest from a GA's point of view?
