A dramatic summer storm sweeps across Northern Utah. Tooele took the first wave of severe thunderstorms. Urban flooding caused problems along State Street in Salt Lake. Several neighborhoods in East Millcreek then got a first hand look at 50 mile per hour winds, which knocked down trees and power lines, leaving a mess behind.
Is everyone ok?

Is everyone ok?It was quite a storm! (in Utah that's pronounced 'starm' ;)). They say that no one was hurt. Lots of places are without power until tomorrow sometime. It mostly bypassed Logan where I live. We just got a little wet is all.
And that's the way it is.

I think Utah County - around Provo - got hit pretty hard. God's wrath, I'm sure. :neener: As Jeff said, most of Logan was OK, but our power (we're just south) was out for a few hours.

In Australia we are having a bit of a drought and the dams are a bit low (proably also God's wrath :))
Richard G Scott (dont forget the "G" ... I wonder if you can be called as a GA if you dont have a middle name??) visited Australia recently and my mother in law (a TBM) enthusiastically told me that in his final prayer/blessing he prayed for rain for us, and amazingly the next day it rained! What a wonderful blessing so clearly the result of the invocation of an apostle. The fact that it was so little rain it had no effect on the dam levels was not material... it rained, so that was enough. Groan... people see the miraculous wherever they want to see it. so it was in JS day (even more so) and so it is today. Oh well.
Maybe Richard G Scott was not specific enough in his prayer and you got the real rain instead of us?? :)

I loved all those pictures of hail damaged tomatoes. 'Ohhhh the horrrror!' ;)
Ok, so first a tornado heads toward the Conference Center and now straight line winds tear a path of destruction right up to the Y on Timp. I think there is definitely a message being sent there! :D

I'm still here. I live in the area in SLC where it hit the worst (the most damage). My wind gauge at my house only recorded 41 MPH gust and .95 inches of rain. Our power was not affected, however, a half mile away there was a lot of damage. Trees down, power out for almost eight hours, flooding.
It happens once in a while :)

I was finishing moving out of my Salt Lake City apartment (Sugarhouse, for those that know the area) when the rains came down and the floods came up. It was pretty bad for a while, and power was out all across Sugarhouse for much of the day (I don't know how long exactly, because I left). I hadn't seen this much rain in Salt Lake in ages, but we sure can use it.
But as for the cause, blame it on me: I washed my car for the first time in a few months, and of course the last time I washed it, it rained, and this time, it did the same...

How does it feel to be a rain god?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minor_characters_from_The_Hitchhiker's_Guide_to_th e_Galaxy#Rob_McKenna
Rob McKenna is a man who can never get away from rain and he has a diary to prove it. In fact he gets rained on so much that he has 231 types of rain written down on a little book. Rob McKenna is, despite not knowing it, a Rain God who is cherished by the clouds, though the feeling is anything but mutual. Arthur suggests that he could show the diary to someone, which Rob does, making him a media sensation. After the publicity McKenna assumes a lucrative job of not travelling to cities for money.
You will get plenty of moisture in Chambana.:D
