We had the meeting with our bishop tonight. After we tell him our decision, his first response was "Did you read Rough Stone Rolling? It is a great work, my wife knows the guy who wrote it and it can help resolve those concerns."

I just about fell off of my seat because I was thinking about the discussion here about the book! It just confirmed to me that I have been lurking around the right places lately!

Other than that, nothing earth shattering was said. It went pretty much as expected. He, of course, mentioned that he came to a different conclusion about all of those early church history problems. The door is always open to us to come back. He will put us on the no hter/vter list but of course couldn't stop people who love us from calling us. We said if it got bad with people, who weren't our friends before this, bugging us, then we would be forced to officially leave. We want to avoid this for the benefit of our mothers who can retain hope of our eternal salvation if our names remain on their records.

It lasted about an hour and ended friendly. We left feeling very happy - especially me because I finally got rid of the keys to the building - which I had to use to get in by the way because the bishop was 20 minutes late of course!!!

You should have said, "Yes, and it just further convinced me that JS was a charlatan and the church has been dishonest in how it represents his life."

Actually, it's encounters like this that give me faith (?) in large numbers of really good people who find themselves, through no fault of their own, in leadership positions. Your Bishop could have been a stinker...but he wasn't. You felt like you parted friends, (or at least on friendly terms), and that allows you and him to continue to live in the same community without the discomfort that comes from unfortunate encounters.

It probably feels pretty good to have that monkey off your back, eh?

Oh, and after the Rough Stone Rolling comment, you should have showed him this --> :lftl:
