Larry King is, as I type, doing a number on Jeffs and the Colorado City community. Although they have made the appropriate comments regarding the FLDS being a splinter group of the LDS Church, I have to believe that this has got to affect TSCC. There is simply too many connections being brought forward to the LDS community and their beliefs. How do you imagine this will affect membership going forward, especially after the earlier about the number of resignations each year. Think that will mushroom now?

Funny, I was just visiting another state, and a lady, knowing I was from Utah, mentioned that the Mormon church was sure getting a lot of bad publicity lately. I quizzed her about what she meant, and she was referring to the Warren Jeffs stuff. When I explained that he was part of an "offshoot" group, she said, "You mean, Mormons don't practice polygamy anymore?" ;) I elected not to get into that bag of worms at the time, but there's one non-member's opinion about the Mo church.

mamajamaThis morning on the news a reporter was talking about how Jeff's is being "politely uncooperative" and that he still maintains that as the prophet of God he is above the law and the Constitution. The report was followed with a reminder that the LDS Church is not in anyway connected with Jeff's (and implied that there is also no connection with such kooky beliefs). This is certainly a good example of the pot calling the kettle black! :duh The Church deserves all the misunderstood connection with Jeff's that there are. The ol' chickens are coming home to roost.

Exactly, and I hope/think that a few fence riding tbms find the courage to seek a little light and knowledge from all of this.
On a side note, when I was tbm and living in Utah I ran a small supply business that took me to Colorado City about once per month. This would have been back in 84/85 and, at the time, they were expecting a raid from some rival polygamy group and the men were patrolling the community with rifle, sidearms and two way radios. They even had checkpoints at the entrance to the city! I got to know quite a few of those folks. Roland Jeffs was "Da Man" when I was there. They were not a lot different than yer everyday run of the mill TBM, in that they were friendly, but maintained a certain distance from non-believers. You could tell who the NOM women were...they wore levi's under their dresses and left their hair down. What a hoot.

There's a couple of threads over at FAIR about this topic at the moment.

That was more than a chuckle, that is precious peepstone material! And did you see the response from Rock!? "I really don't think that could happen." It's hilarious! Rock can't be serious! HE/She didn't really let that whole JS/WJ parallel slip by! I really can't stomach that place, it gives me heart burn, but some folks over there have a great sense of humor and Cinepro is one of them.
