View Full Version : A beautiful lie!

As most of you know Grant Palmer, the author of An Insider’s View of Mormonism, was disfellowshipped yesterday for printing what he found to be the truth. The Church has never, and I guarantee will never, attempt to refute his findings, because they can’t. What Grant has published is clearly demonstrated by the facts and the Church knows that. So they have turned instead to character assassination in a desperate and immoral attempt to discredit him in the eyes of the faithful by disfellowshipping him. Because he now wears the “Scarlet Letter” on his chest most of the faithful won’t dare to read his book. Even his Stake President who disfellowshipped him refused to read his book when Grant invited him to. Never mind the facts, they seem to think, we’ll just think and believe what they tell us to think and believe.
I’m disappointed in Grant that he didn’t stand up to the Church and resign. He said he still loves the Church because he believes in its basic tenants. But I think he needs to realize that he doesn’t need to be a member and support it’s lies and cover-ups to put into practice the tenants he likes. The Church has no monopoly on them.
I’m told that Grant also has concludes that Joseph Smith was less than honest with the truth but still thinks of Joe as inspired. Talk about cognitive dissonance! I’d hate to have to wrestle with such a mental manure pile, but to each his own.
Grant’s position reminds me of a line from a song I once heard: “It’s a lie, but oh what a beautiful lie!”

I feel for Mr. Grant. He will have to struggle within his spirit and soul for sometime. His disfellowshipment maybe in a few years, be the start of a wake up call.
I can understand him, however in his bewilderment. just as he wrote a book, Grant may need to read a few books also. In mind control, groups and cult behaviors.
I learned there is never a beautiful lie. We hold on strong to our beliefs, even when they betray us, and cause us harm.
I must have seemed very foolish myself once standing before someone I thought had ethics and honor, only realizing after much pain, that was the last thing they had. Oh, heck, I still hold out hope, and do the same thing!!
I was discredited, after standing up to something, what an attack!! Unbelieveable attack. They must have been very frightened, I would expose something. I had no intent, I was just trying to protect my children. And did that backfire!!
Yes, they gave him a scarlet letter, someone to be shunned, making sure his writings are discredited. Funny a month after a reply I wrote for a newspaper referring to a "scarlet letter", I faced a horrible nightmare, what a punishment! They must have been very frightened, and they still must be.
I hope Grant does also reads books written by others who have had to come to a realization the "beauty" they believed in, was only on the surface.

Same old same old. Someone writes a book exposing the falacy and fraud of the book of mormon and gets the boot. You know what I find most galling? The level of reverence joseph smith receives from members. This guy was a fraud, and as one congressman, who wrote about the Mountain Meadows Massacre wrote, a "MISCREANT".
Have any doubts about the latter descrption? Read " IN SACRED LONELINESS" by Todd Compton. What can one think about a man who has 33 wives, approximately 11 of whom are currently married to other men. WHA??? A PROPHET??? Whatever!!!!!
I read Palmers book. It disembowels the book of mormon as a historical record. What an eye opener. If you are reading my comments, and reconsidering your mormon faith, read his book. I could not put it down. I would go easy on Grant. It took a lot of courage to write that book.

Yes, it took Grant a lot of courage to write his findings.
And it will take as much inner strength for him to put his life in order.
Grant's chruch leadership, blacked mailed him. They ganged up to discredit him, because he wrote of a folly which he found.
I would never dream of going hard on Grant. I give him all the possible good wishes on getting and putting his life back.

Thought you all might like this editorial published today:
What would Joseph say?
Joseph Smith once said, “I never thought it was right to call up a man and try him because he erred in doctrine; it looks too much like methodism and not like Latter-day Saintism. Methodists have creeds which a man must believe or be kicked out of their church. I want the liberty of believing as I please, it feels so good not to be trammeled. It doesn't prove that a man is not a good man, because he errs in doctrine.” (As reported by William Clayton, April 8, 1843, when Elder Pelatiah Brown was called before the LDS High Council for his opinions - Words of Joseph Smith, p. 183).
