Attractive faces easier to process

These findings made me wonder if people find religion attractive for the same reasons. Do people find religion attractive because it is easier to process the idea of a single God controlling everything and watching out for you than trying to understand the incomprehensible interconnections of the real world?

We in design and advertising RELY on this to get people's attention and make things look more interesting than they really are...through simplicity.

However, that's also why you get a lot of people leaving the religion. After learning that God wants to micromanage your life through countless, obscure, conflicting little rules and suggestions, the simple, attractive image of the church presented by the missionaries is no longer present.

And at that point, the church uses the same knowlege of markets that businesses use daily:

It's less expensive and much, much easier to keep your existing customers than it is to find new ones. Hence "multiply and replenish the earth" alongside "you'll be held accountable for the sins of your children if you don't raise them in the church".
