What the hell does THIS mean?
Joseph Cannon, chairman of the Utah Republican Party, calls Mormons the African Americans of the GOP because about 70% vote Republican.

That was my take, too, but I think it's more insidious than just that. I think he's trying to borrow sympathy by comparing the Mormons to another maligned group in American history. But I HARDLY feel as sorry for the poor, poor Mormons as I do for the struggles of African Americans who continue to find themselves largely unable to find equality at the political table, whereas the Mormons OWN the political table in many places, and are positioned to own even more.
Cannon should be embarassed.
Next, he'll be saying things like, "We're like the homosexuals of the Christian movement." :p

Was reading the article and this jumped out at me:
"Despite Dobson's true-believer (and anti-Mormon) stance"
I get a lot of e-mails forwarded to me from my TBM friends and family from Dr. Dobson. Is he really anti-mormon? I would LOVE to have this information to share with them. I haven't seen anything that says he is anti mormon.

In 2004, Mormons were specifically excluded from participation in the National Day of Prayer organized by Shirley Dobson (wife of James Dobson, leader of the conservative Christian organization Focus on the Family) because their theology was found to be incompatible with Christian beliefs.
One longtime political observer put it this way: "Publicly, it's not an issue. Privately, it's a big damn issue."

Focus on the Family has formed a political Alliance with the Mormon Church. The Alliance is called the World Congress of Families (WCOF) - www.worldcongress.org. It is a United Nations lobbying group started and funded by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), better known as the Mormon Church. FOF has actually been holding Planning Committee Meetings on their Colorado Springs campus with officials from the WCOF, BYU and other Mormon organizations! This Alliance flies in the face of clear Scriptural mandates to not form Alliances with the enemies of God.
