Sorry I haven't been around much lately, everyone. I've been keeping myself super busy with a new project, which I think some of you might enjoy.
After searching and searching for clothes to buy for baby Lily that don't have bunny rabbits, pooh bear, and pastels plastered all over the place, I decided to start designing my own. So I bought some silk screen equipment, built a site, and spent hours upon hours in the shed out back getting paint all over the place (and this paint doesn't dry until it reaches 300°, so it's a ^$*# to clean up)!
Finally I am finished and launched the site this weekend. Check it out, and let me know what you think.

...cute? Morbid? Cute? Morbid?
Mostly, I think it's fabulous (but is it cute? or Morbid?), and I'm amazed at the inovation of some people! I'm dying to know how it goes for you!!!
Little skulls juxtaposed on baby girl clothes...cute? or Morbid?
ahhh.....I can't decide!!! :p

ahhh.....I can't decide!!! :pSuperb graphics and web design! But I'd have to defer to the younger crowd for an opinion on the concept. Maybe there's a huge potential market for it that I'm not aware of because I'm so over the hill that I've lost touch with the other side of the hill. Which is very likely!

yeah, I'm afraid this was pretty much my point, too. I'm certain my 20 something sons and sons in law would think it ROCKS! I just hope they don't decide have children just so they can adorn them with Skutterflys!

Yeah, we know it is a limited market (what market isn't). My father was turned off by the fact that I used the word "hell" on the About Us page, but he's not my target audience. We know that there definitely IS a market for this type of stuff. There is a whole new generation becoming new parents and terrified of dressing up their kids the same way THEIR parents would. I know, cuz [in my best TV voice-over tone] I'm not just the president of skutterfly, I'm a customer. haha
This type of design is doing very well on the adult market right now, so should do good for the kids too, if I can market and advertise it right. I was selling a number of these on ebay before I put up the site; mostly seconds that I didn't get perfect, and they were going pretty fast.
Plus, it's fun!

A friend of mine just had a baby girl. While we're all thrilled and happy for her, she made on request: No cute pink bunny clothes or any of that sugar-coated Disney crap.
Looks like Nate's stuff fits the bill perfectly. I'll be stopping by the site to put in an order. Love it!

Dogzilla! Thanks for the compliments. Right now I only have one design available in a 3-9 month onesie (buying newborn onesies is worthless, as they only fit for about 2-3 weeks, and during those weeks, momma don't give a damn)...everything else is tees and lap tees in the 12-24 month range. I'm still testing to see what sizes and color combos are going to sell better, so if you see something you like that's not available in the size you want, just let me know and I'll do it up.

Yes, "seriously!" I have one son that would think it was too cute to have a baby with a tatoo and a nose pierce, and matching little outfits might just be the last push he needs to have that adorable little bouncing skull of joy! I'll not be showing him Nate's website at least until there's already a bun in the oven! Then, have it... Just keep the permanent ink away from my grandchild while she's still pink... ;)
(Okay, okay...not THAT seriously... :p )

That's funny! We were just thinking about making skutterfly temporary tattoos to send out with the shirts. haha

Sounds a bit too close to shutterfly. But it is clearly a different product. It does seem an odd combination skulls and babies since they represent opposite ends of the life continuum. Still I am sure there are probably some skater or harley parents that like the idea.

Oh I think there is definitely a market for this! I know many women of my generation who are very turned off to the frilly pink, cartoon stuff. I think it is Anne Geddes backlash. All those images of babies shoved in flower buds kind of wear you out on the sugary sweet.

I told my 20 year old about this, and he definately thought it was cool! If you're still up in a few years, I'm sure he'll be shopping there!

I'll e-mail you at some point. These will be Christmas gifts, so plenty of time. One will be for a little girl, who will be about six months old by December and the other will be for a little boy who will be a couple months shy of 2 by then. His daddy is a Deadhead, so the skulls ought to go over very, very well. ;) (Yes, I'm at the age where all my friends are breeding.)
I'll be in touch!

Okay...no more callers please, hold the phones...we have a winner.
That, my friends, is an adorable picture, and somehow the whole skull-thing just, well...works!
She's adorable in her new little "skutterfly". Someday, we'll all be shopping for our grandkids at the "Skutterfly Outlet", right between Zumiez and The Baby Gap. We'll be able to say, "We knew them when they were poor and hungry." ;)

Well I'm at the age where I'm breeding!
OK guys, all of this talk about breeding is getting too racey for me!
Actually, my 22-year-old daughter and her wonderful group of friends would LOVE this stuff. They are kindof into tattoos and piercings, and I think this would be right up her alley. (I'll hope that she holds off on the breeding for awhile :) ).
My daughter has always HATED the cutsie stuff, even when she was a little one. Heckfire, she used to go to McDonalds and purposefully order a Barbie Happy Meal so she could alter Barbie's appearance. It usually started with a pair of scissors and a spiked hairdo.
Good luck to you Nate!
