Glenn is Mormon and a radically right wing nutty radio host like Limbaugh. I am suprised to see him on CNN. But I guess sex sells.

Anytime I see one of these guys I always wonder if they are closet participaters. I will rarely trust someone who is so very outspoken about a pleasure activity whether it be porn, cigars, booze, gambling, or whatever. Human beings have been enjoying all the above since shortly after we became sentient. Well, maybe not cigars but some form of smoking.
And let's face it folks, and I know I continue to refer to this but think about how much sex a guy with over thirty wives has. Is it possible that Joseph Smith was a sex addict? Of course it is. I can tell you that I need sex far less than what it seems he needed. He had an insatiable libido and it seems women were something of a possession to him.
So for the above type individual I say " almost thou doth protest too much".

I think you're totally on to something, there, FT. Rush Limbaugh is another perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black in order to create a smokescreen that hides his own perverted activities.

I am not sure if it was quantity he craved or variety. Personally I don't see JS's behavior as any different from that of say a modern day rock star. Yeah there were some women who only succumbed to his advances because of guilt and pressure from their family but I think others willingly gave themselves to him like Eliza Snow. Don't underestimate the sexual alure of a powerful and charismatic individual.

Or Mark Foley working on a committee to protect children from sexual exploitation?

Porn is only addicting to mormons and people who want to avoid it, it's as simple as that.
Just because something is addicting to some people doesn't mean the rest us shouldn't be able to use it. Porn is just masturbation without thinking hard, if it's doing anything harmful to society it's just making us a little more lazy. As for distraught wives upset that their husbands are looking at porn too much it's their own fault for not giving it up enough.
Anything can be addicting.

I guess the concern is that the man will no longer be aroused by normal females when he can look at abnormally hot naked women. Also there is a concern that he will feel less inclined to nuture the relationship with the spouse if his sexual desires can be satisfied by a paper fantasy. Then there is the concern that he may want to try some of the stuff depicted in the magazine like group sex. I think there is some concern about how as a society we are separating sex from intimacy. As a society I think we are becoming increasingly isolated. Relying on porn to fulfil our sexual urges only further isolates us from connecting with another human being.

Some people though seem incapable of maintaining an intimate realtionship. For them it is healthier to look at porn and masturbate than get entangled in another destructive or unfulfilling relationship. And they may be quite well balanced and successful in almost all other of life's endeavors.
One man's addiction is another man's pleasure.

True. Married life and raising a family is definitely not for everyone.

I remember watching a program recently on human intimacy. It showed that men who watched attractive naked women in pornography had notable decreased desire for their female partners. This seems to imply that there are some consequences in having married men, or men who are in serious relationships watch porn.
What was even more interesting is that women watching attractive naked men had no decreased desire for their husbands or partners!
Now before you start thinking women have a built in genetic moral superiority I should tell you the study did show that women that saw images of rich and successful men did find their spouses less attractive afterwards!
Evolutionary biologists / anthropologists must be having a field day with this information.

It seems to me that Mormon upbringing of isolation from talking about the birds and the bees and then knowing that your older brother that just got home is being pushed by the bishop and the stake pres to me married in 6 months or less puts a huge black mark on Mormon thinking.
It seems to me that I saw a statistic that showed that more than 50% of Mormons have pre-marital sex. My thinking is because we don't talk about it. Kids have to learn for themselves and try and decode the hormone rages.
I think this pushes a lot of LDS people to porn.
Just 2 cents worth.

I agree that the forbidden fruit complex plays a part in people's obsession with porn.

True. Married life and raising a family is definitely not for everyone.
I don't think being married and raising a family has anything to do with whether or not porn can be an enjoyable activity. Since leaving the church my wife and I enjoy viewing porn together. Our creativity in bed has increased and we have only become more intimate with each other. We have even talked about going out to a strip club together. She is not bothered by me looking at another naked woman and I am not bothered by her looking at another naked man. We are very comfortable and secure in our relationship and have found porn and other related forms of entertainment to be a great alternative way to spice things up.
I don't think porn is a "one size fits all" kind of thing. No matter what a person's religious beliefs are, some people find porn offensive, period. Others, like us, don't. So just like anything else in life, if something works for you, go for it. If it doesn't, leave it alone.
