I was listening to a show on NPR that was talking about how witchcraft has increased in Africa since the end of Apartied. The speaker mentioned that witchcraft was a form of violence. It is used to harm people you are jealous of or who a way to fight back against those who are more powerful than you. People who believe in it in Africa use it to explain the inequalities of life whether it pertains to wealth or health. It made me wonder if Christianity isn't also a religion of violence masquarading as a message of peace. Its preachers tell the believers that God will punish the wicked who have wronged them with painful toture and even hellfire if they are unbelievers. Yes Christians are told to pray for the wicked, but there is still violent punishment instore if the wicked do not repent and many preachers tell the believers that there will be violent punishment and hardship in this life if they do not follow the scriptures.
