Once upon a time
~~~~~~~~~~~
in a land far away,
~~~~~~~~~~~
a beautiful, independent,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
self-assured princess
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
happened upon a frog as she sat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
contemplating ecological issues
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
on the shores of an unpolluted pond
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
in a verdant meadow near her castle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The frog hopped into the princess' lap
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and said: " Elegant Lady,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was once a handsome prince,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One kiss from you, however,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and I will turn back
~~~~~~~~~~~~
into the dapper, young prince that I am
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and then, my sweet, we can marry
~~~~~~~~
and set up housekeeping in your castle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
with my mother,
~~~~~~~~~~
where you can prepare my meals,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
clean my clothes, bear my children,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and forever feel
~~~~~~~~~~
grateful and happy doing so. "
You left off the ending:
"And, later, as she dined by candlelight on fresh frog legs sauteed in a nice lemon garlic butter sauce, served with a lovely chardonnay... she laughed quietly to herself and said, 'I don't f***king think so.' "
Dog gone it dogzilla, you rock!
Yes I did leave of the ending, but don’t you think it distracts as relating to all the promises one finds in Mormonism? The beautiful princes would have made a good post-mormon.
Well, yeah, she'd have made a good Mormon, right up until the point where she ate the frog. ;)
Yes, the punchline distracts from the relate-to-Mormons point.
When I was in college, I managed to get my hands on a book of feminist fairy tales (http://www.amazon.com/Feminist-Fairy-Tales-Barbara-Walker/dp/0062513206/sr=8-1/qid=1163599350/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-9936946-3782234?ie=UTF8&s=books), wherein the authors had taken all the old, traditional fairy tales and re-wrote them with a feminist slant. It was awesome. Snow White lived in sin with her dwarves and refused to marry the prince so she could keep her power and her kingdom in her own name. Stuff like that. Great book! It helped me learn to think outside the box, as I was fresh out of the church at that time. It gets terrible reviews on Amazon, but I think people don't get the point.
