Hey all, I hadn't posted on here since I moved to Central Illinois. And no, it's not because they don't have internet out here in the sticks. Been really busy with law school, which is going very well. Aside from the annoying nature of small towns (do I actually miss Salt Lake?), things are great. Thought I'd pop in and say hi.

Oh, how the world is different out here. There are a surprising number of Utahns/Mormons out here (I think 10 or 12 or so out of 550 in the law school). There is even a "Mormon Marauders" softball team, which I play on, in the law school league. But what is interesting is that, although everyone knows that I am a post-mormon, and that I went on a mission and to the temple, no missionaries or home teachers have come to my door, no bishops have called to "welcome me to the ward", and none of my classmates have said, "hey, why don't you come to church this week?" It's amazing, but they actually respect my viewpoint. For my part, I don't tell them that the reason I left is because I think their whole religion is a crock, I just tell them that I walked away because it wasn't for me. And everyone seems fine with that. Brigham Young would spin in his grave if he saw how tolerant all of these Mormons (some of them from Utah, even!) are.

So who ever said that the church is the same wherever you go? It seems to be a lot more compatible with use PostMo's than the establishment back in Utah. Thank heavens for that...

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi. Hopefully I'll be around occasionally now. Hope you're all doing well! I missed talking to you guys while I was not here. Also, I missed old Joe... what a great guy :lftl:

They are betting that they can BRT you back into the church through softball! :D There are a lot of married members that live in Winfield vilage in Savoy. I also didn't have a lot of resistance from the Bishop there when I said I no longer believed the church. I think it is different when you are dealing with university students and especially graduate students. Many of them may share your doubts and questions but stay because it is their culture. Anyway, glad to hear things are going well.:)

Hiya Bobcat! Glad you checked in. We've missed hearing from you. Sounds like this was a good choice - law school in another state besides Utah.

Give us an update every now and then.

Helemon, funny you should mention Winfield Village. I live close to there, and two guys on my softball team live in that complex. A fine town, Savoy. Nothing quite as refreshing as walking outside of your apartment in the morning to smell U of I's swine research facility.
