Ever have those moments when you realize "yes, I've actually made a nice break from MoInc.?" I had one of those this weekend. I left Champaign to go to Chicago for Thanksgiving weekend. My apartment got robbed on Wednesday night, and I lost my TV and digital camera. But, it wasn't so bad. I had current renter's insurance, I had my laptop with me for the weekend, I had backups of all of my CDs, I had sent my XBox 360 in for maintenance so it wasn't in the apartment, I had registered the serial number of my TV, etc. So (hopefully) all I will be out in the end is the deductable on my insurance. Not bad considering there was a robbery.
So I told my mom about it, and she said "someone is watching out for you! You may not believe it, but it's true!" She was implying that the mostly-favorable circumstances of the incident MUST be due to some divine inspiration. I just chuckled, and realized that things were not too bad because I had taken responsibility and applied a reasonble amount of foresight to the situation. I bought the insurance I needed, kept tabs on my things, and otherwise mitigated the damages, all by myself, with no help from the Mormon God that my parents are so quick to attribute everything to.
Sharing this with you, not because I want to vent about my bad luck in getting robbed, but because it was a nice reminder of how far I've come in the years since I've left MoInc. This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for that.

This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for that.well i have been robbed twice this year , funny thing is , all the robbers are all related in some way or other to the local mormon bishop . it would be funny but some car windows were smashed and our kids had all their boom boxes stolen , however one of the robbers was found hiding in the bushes , he was taken back to the house and interrogated by my 6ft 8 samoan son in law, on failure to give whereabouts of stolen goods he was punched all over the driveway , when the police finaly turned up they seemed quite pleased that this guy had gotten a really good hiding , they even gave us the names and addresses of a few more young burglars around town , never did get the stuff back tho , and no we don,t have insurance

Sometimes this is the best gift of your new perspective...the ability to see the same sorts of stories from a fundamentally different point of view. That's wisdom.
Unfortunately, these kinds of stories get told in F&T meeting all too often, and the sheep never have the wherewithall to see if from a different point of view. However, had things NOT turned out in a way where God gets to win, then the story just gets forgotten and never told. In that way, there is a concentration of a few "faith promoting stories" that get surfaced, and the vast majority of hum-drum stories that never get to see the light of day.

Hey Bobcat - great to hear from you again.
I thought about this thread this morning when, on my way to work, I saw a bumper sticker that said, "Keep praying until something happens".
Gotta love that thinking. If something happens, prayer gets the credit, and if nothing happens, it's only because you haven't prayed enough yet.
Anyway, glad to hear that you came through the robbery as well as you did (thanks to your own foresight and efforts!)
