I would like to hear some suggestions for possible "slogans" for the postmormon.org website. It needs to be something that will help people understand what we are, without offending people still in the church.

Here's one of my thoughts:
Support group for people who have
chosen to leave the Mormon religion

It's not bad, but it's not great. It needs to be short and sweet. (The website address will already be on the cards, so that part does not need to be included).

Thanks for any help. :D

Thanks for starting this thread!!!!! (it was on my "to do" list!)

Here is a suggestion -

"No longer a member? Leaving the church? Need support?" www.postmormon.org ( I hate using the word "church" though)

"this is the place for post-mormons"

"beyond momonism"

"left the church, now what"

"the other side"

"meet people that you could only find at postmormon.org"

"not a fireside"

I dunno.. Just a few ideas....

Here's a few more ideas.....

"Not everything is what it seems!"

"Life can be Wonderful!"

"Knowing the real truth sets you free"

"There is life beyond mormonism"

"So you don't want to be mormon? Take step 1!"

"Letting go will make you free!"

"Mormonism isn't for everyone. Is it really for you?"

"Broaden your horizons!"

"Born in the covenant? Convert? It doesn't have to be for life?"

"Who wants to be a post-mormon?!"

Just a tip from someone who has worked in advertising in the past: Never start a slogan with a negative.

That said, I still like,

"Open Sundays! www.postmormon.org"

IMO, I think it's important to not sound like we are trying to persuade members to leave the church. That is NOT what we are about.

We are here to offer support for those who have already decided to leave, have left, or are stuck in the middle and need support and answers to their questions.

I also like the idea that we eventually will be more than an Online Community. In the near future we will be working on activities, events, community support, etc. Hopefully there will be opportunities for us to be more involved in our communities as a non profit organization. We are still in the process of working out what the future holds. ;)

How about:

"Offering support for former Mormons"

"Supportive online community for former Mormons"

"Supporting those who left or are leaving Mormonism"

"A community of support for former Mormons"

"Aiding and abetting Mormon escapees" :D

"RUN FOR YOU F*&@ING LIFE TO POSTMORMON.ORG!" :D

"Online Coffee House for former Mormons" :D

"Bring Your Own Hot Beverage!" :D

I think that some people here may enjoy this.

"Not the straight and narrow"

Just kidding...

Or, "had enough prozac, find insanity enjoyable at postmormon.org"

Ok, that was bad too...

"Life without censorship"

"Take off the blinders, and trot down your own path"

(yes, still negative.. hmm)

"enjoy diversity, without the overhead" (I wish I could find a smilie with a Moroni statue)

I think I woke up in a bad mood.

Sorry.

I think that my favorite slogan of all time is quoted of Jimmy Buffet.

All of these ideas are great.....and it's true that we don't want to sound like we're trying to persuade people to leave, but since this site is for those who have ALREADY left or who WANT to leave, humor in the slogan is a must. I remember how guilty I felt when I first starting having anti-mo thoughts (you know, like, "This is such a crock of crap," and "One more discussion about Joseph Smith's divinity and I will truly hock up a lung.") I too like The Straight and Narrow Just Got Wider. I think once I'm out of the closet I'll go to one of those make-your-own T-shirt places and make some with all these sayings on it and be my own billboard for this site - with everyone's permission, of course :)

Here's some more, maybe not quite as "nice"... :D

The Straight and Narrow isn't so Straight.

Here's another not so nice. I'm not suggesting we actually use it. I haven't looked through all the ideas, maybe this one's been posted already.

I know that for myself, I felt like we were so alone in the world (especially here in Logan, Utah). So something like this would have caught my eye:

Ever wonder if your alone?postmormon.org

It was nice to think and then know that we weren't making this transition alone! But maybe that might seem negative?

Can I just comment, that what attracted me to this site was

Post Mormon - it is a neutral term unlike anti mormon which smacks of anti-christ, which I am sure most mormons think we all are

The beautiful picture of the young family with their children

It is like saying

We are taking the best of Mormonisn (the wonderful strong family units it espouses and encourages + happiness cause that family look incredibly content and happy - also extremely good looking - good ploy)

So, something that says just that, that we take the best of mormonism but cut out the crap..

Sorry, doesn't sound too good huh, I'll stick to my day job!!!!

I like this because I was SHOCKED to find out how many non believing Mos there are out there. I pretended for a couple years but once I found out I wasn't alone and felt there was support it changed my whole life.

I like it!

I like it a lot! I like it because it's everything that we are about, doesn't challenge or criticize the Church in anyway whatsoever, and raises curiosity. I like it a lot! I'd only make one small change:

Ever wonder if you're not alone?
PostMormon.org

Thanks for the idea! I think there have been a lot of good ideas listed here that can be put to use too down the road when the Mormon community has acclimated to our presence, but this one to me is perfect for right out of the chute!

Thanks!

PostMormon.org - 10,000 strapping warriors. ;) (or "dressed warriors")

- We are all children of God.

- Message boards, not meetings.

- Thinking has never been so welcomed.

- Discussion encouraged daily.
