The letter writer is referring to this column (http://www.tallahassee.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2006612010322), which was reprinted from the Arizona Republic.

My comments to a friend of mine, who sent me the link:
So let's pick apart his stupidstitious mormon thinking, shall we?
How is being LDS and reading a column you don't agree with a slap in the face of journalism? That column did EXACTLY what journalism is supposed to: Make you think about viewpoints you might not have considered before some asshole told you what to think from behind a pulpit somewhere. It's a slap in the face to a thin-skinned mormon, but a credit to the field of journalism.
Next, what exactly, would be wrong with a bisexual conference on what is wrong with the Episcopal church? What difference should it make what the orientation of the conference participants would be? That's totally irrelevant.
BTW, any moron can get a cert from the Institute of Religion. It's not like the guy has a PhD in Theology from, say, an accredited school with actual research to back up the assertions. (Apologies to any postmo friends with Institute certificates. I'm not implying you are a moron. Just that the cert from the Institute doesn't really give the letter writer all that much credibility as any sort of scripture expert or religion expert.) It was stupid on his part to cite that as his area of expertise when the certificate is basically meaningless outside of mormon culture. How many Baptists around here do you think give a cat's ass about some certificate program from a wacky cult?
Finally... I really, really, really want to write my own letter to the editor and ask this Joseph-Smith-worshipping idiot when he's going to lay off the judgment and live his life like Christ actually taught: with acceptance and tolerance and love. "As I have loved you, love one another." That scripture does NOT end with, "except for the gays, the mexicans, the blacks, the women, the buddhists, the pagans and anyone else who doesn't agree with me." I would end that by wishing the guy a Merry Smithmas. $20 says there's not one single picture of Jesus hanging anywhere inside a mormon church anywhere in Tallahassee, but there's at least three pictures of profits... oh, I mean "prophets." Smith probably has the biggest frame.

I studied the Mormon church well enough here in Tallahassee to be given a certificate of graduation from the Institute of Religion from Brigham Young University.
Why can't we all just believe in Christ?
I needed a Friday laugh. :D
This is the perfect way to start a weekend. Oh. Except for one of my favorite gymnastic moves. :lftl: :lftl: :lftl: The triple Pinochio Joe !

Ya know, I never noticed that the triple Pinocchio Joe gymnastic move is synchronized! What a feat! Kindof like synchronized swimming...but not....:D
Anyhoo, as a former Whiskeypalian, I've been thrilled to see the election of a gay bishop in the Episcopal church. The Episcopal Diocese in Utah has a FEMALE bishop (who happens to come from Mormon roots: the OC Tanner family). My favorite Episcopalian bumper sticker here in Utah says: My Bishop is a Female. Snicker...wonder for whom that jab is intended?
Anyway, I really think you should write that letter to the editor, dogzilla.

.......
Well, you know ol' Joe... he always did like things in multiples (like wives).
Mr. Offended Mormon's post was about as idiotic as they come, but his bragging about his credentials at least got me to chuckle.
BTW, I thought the original article was well done and thoughtfully written.
Thanks for posting, Dogzilla.

Uhhhh, because everyone is not a Christian? Besides which version of Christ should we believe in? Furthermore, if this guy is truly a graduate of BYU Institute (I am sure they are sooo proud) he would realize that it is not enough to believe in Christ, you have to live all those Mormon rules as well.

Or why can't we all just believe in purple aliens from the Moon? His is the same 'ol story: "The world would be much better if everyone just believed like me."

Apologies to any postmo friends with Institute certificates. I'm not implying you are a moron. Just that the cert from the Institute doesn't really give the letter writer all that much credibility
Hey, those Institute classes are extremely hard and intellectually rigorous! :lie: ;)
Institute is more about helping Mormon students associate with and marry other Mormon students. Saying you graduated from Institute is not saying much. It is just Seminary in college.
Now where did I put that certificate anyway?
