View Full Version : If you build it...

Since November 12th when this website first began allowing visitors to register there have been over 70 people register with more signing up every day! Where did you come from? How did you find it? The planned promotional activities have haven’t started yet – they are waiting for the final touches on the nuts and bolts of the website to be put in place. But somehow through word of mouth or just stumbling onto the site the number of registered users has grown considerably in 5 weeks. When I told a friend of this recently she said, “If you build it they will come!” (A reference to a statement in a Kevin Costner movie, the title of which escapes me at the moment.) So, from those who feel so inclined I’d like to know how you found the website.

It's gratifying and humbling to see the responses so far to this website. I’m certain that once more concerted efforts are made to get the word out we’ll see a rapid growth in numbers and participation—especially after the first billboard goes up. Expect the first billboard no sooner than February sometime. I’d like to get our tax-free status in place first but maybe we can make something come together prior to that. Time will tell.

By the way, I owned a billboard business in Idaho when I was in my twenties (I'm now 49) and am certain that whatever hurdles we come up against in getting the billboards up will be overcome.

Thanks all for your kind emails and for your participation in our community! :D

I heard about it from my wife, who heard about it from an acquaintance of hers at work. I know I've talked to several people about it since, and at least one (my neighbor!) has registered, and I expect others will check it out, too. It's the old "exponential growth" thing.

Jeff, I heard about it from Austin in casual conversation, but I thought he was speaking of the gematria site you had up. I actually visited this site for the first time after reading your Mormons vs. DNA editorials in the Herald Journal.

Is that other site still live? If so, I'd like to check it out again; after researching and understanding more, I'd like to take a look again.

Nate, below is a link to the other site you asked about. Keep in mind that it is an unfinished experimental site I created about two years ago to learn how to use Flash [for other readers, it's a software package that allows the creation of interactive audiovisual material for the Web. Nate knows the package well].

http://www.unlockmysteries.com [under construction]

I would like to do some interactive audio visual material for this website someday too. One I have in mind is a short program that introduces the issues related to Native American DNA and the Book of Mormon. There are other Mormon issues that I think also should be put in an audiovisual format so they can be easily and quickly digested by those unfamiliar with the issues, such as The Book of Abraham farce and others. By the way, I don't consider the website at the above link to be a good example of "easily and quickly digested." It was my first attempt at such a thing. I'm sure it can be done much better. Hey Nate! Since you know Flash too maybe you can help with one someday! If we raise enough funds, and I think we will, then we might even be able to pay for your help -- time will tell [Nate does this sort of thing for a living].

Here's a much better example of a Web based audiovisual creation created using Flash.

I found my way to your Field of Dreams (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0097351/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnxzZz0xfHR0PW9ufHBuPTB8cT1GaWVsZCBvZi BEcmVhbXN8bXg9MjB8bG09MjAwfGh0bWw9MQ__;fc=1;ft=4;f m=1) via another post Mormon website, The View from the Foyer (http://www.aimoo.com/forum/freeboard.cfm?id=418550).

I love this site and its clean layout. As more post Momrons come along, traffic will grow. It will be interesting to see how this proceeds.

Jeff,

I just stumbled across this site after doing a search on Mormonism. I was raised in the church in Portland, Oregon but left many years ago. Now I'm in Seattle working on my Master's in Counseling Psychology. Once finished, I'd like to start a non-profit cult-recovery center where people who have left cults can come to decompress. The idea is pretty recent and I'd love to hear what others on this site think of it.

I have a friend who belongs to an exmo board and she heard about this site there and sent me the link. I also am looking forward to watching it grow.

Jeff,
I'd love to help out. I actually just started conceptualizing one on Sacred Geometry/Platonic Solids and related stuff like the Fibonacci/Golden Spiral sequence and their places in nature.

Great! Thanks Nate! Let's keep in touch.

Your project sounds interesting too. Let me know when it's ready to take a look at.

I've mulling over your post since you posted it and would like you to describe further what you have in mind for these ex-cult decompression centers. I've been planning for the Post-Mormon Community to at some point sponsor the kind of thing you appear to have in mind, but it would primarily be for former Mormons. Would you possibly be interested in overseeing that area of The Community's activities, or at least help with get it going? If so give it some thought as to how you might see it proceeding and get back with me. Respond here or private message or email me.

Thanks for being a part of The Community!
Jeff
