Okay, I know this is old hat to you who live near the seats of power, but I just read this article by Lavinia F Andersen, and was bowled over by it, just because I didn't really know any of this had gone on.

http://www.sunstoneonline.com/magazine/issues/128/features/church-scholars.html

For instance I didn't know that Eugene England had criticised (by implication) the 'Strenghthening the Members committee'. I did not know that they existed and what their true purpose was, or the names of the apostles who served on this committee.

I also didn't know that they hold secret files on you which are accusatory in nature.. Gosh it sounds like the 'salem witch hunts'.

Very interesting stuff.

These men are afraid of women. I think they are afraid of the deep feelings that women arouse in them. I think they realize they are powerless over the ultimate attraction of women. I think they are afraid of sex. Like all powerful men, they fear what they cannot control!! IMHO :o

I'll see you "afraid of women" and raise you one "also afraid of women's power." That's my personal theory on why the church is so misogynist in the first place. I remember being so completely dumbfounded in Sunday School when we got to the lesson where "women have exactly one and only one purpose on this earth: to pop out puppies." My step-mom was a working mom. My birth mother is still a working mom. I had been raised surrounded by very strong, very powerful (within their families), independent women. I looked around at my cousins, who mostly married nice guys. They'd get sick of waiting on their husbands to do something, go to the library, figure it out and do the chores themselves. We realized at a family reunion once, we collectively had the skills to build and maintain a house without ever calling a contractor. When women team up, pool their resources, and are determined...

The men have to make up a bunch of stupid rules to slow us down, or else we'll bulldoze right over 'em.
