Let me go out on a limb here.

He might have been able to evade a conviction, but I suspect his name might be mud now.

That brought to my mind the question - Is Moism more forgiving of heterosexual abuse than homosexual abuse?

Logic (well my strange form of it anyway) would suggest that the mindset that can discount men's responsibility for hetero sexual abuse, in part by blaming the victim, probably goes into judgement overtime with homosexual assault.

We know they are mega-homophobic, and ignorant of the dynamics of sexual abuse generally, a combination I suspect is rampant with room for inconsistencies and projections.

Am I on the money here?

Does MO judgement go overtime once charges of homosexual abuse are exposed, even if a conviction cannot be recorded?

I am trying not to go nuts regarding this guy. I know him. His name was mud prior to this. He had questionable business ethics. (I used to work closely under him at a large financial corp)

From the outside looking in it appears it would be easier to blame the victim of hetero abuse. However within the church I wonder if it doesn't matter? This guy was well liked, a bishop, charming, etc, etc, etc. Until everything caught up with him. (AFTER he was bishop, of course) If one isn't aware of the other shady areas of his life they might like to blame the victim as well.

They can blame the kid like they are Martha Beck. It happened years ago why is he coming forward NOW?

Instead of educating themselves on abuse and how it can impair one's mental and emotional capacity to accept it and deal with it, it is easier to still allow the victim to share the blame.

I can't help but feel that within the church, anyway, it doesn't matter either way. It depends on how active the perp is, how well liked he is, etc.

The sad reality here appears to be that the law cannot act because technical hurdles bind their hands. Sadly the law sometimes gets caught on these issues, but I swallow hard, because it is the structure that keeps the law somewhat consistent and prevents or at least reduces its arbitrary use.

Sadly there is another side in all matters of law, and that it safeguarding against wrongful imprisonment and punishment, and I see sometimes that people fail to see that the cost of making nets too tight, is that they catch wrong people sometimes. Having been grilled once for something I did not do, I have loads more empathy for innocents caught up wrongly than I once had.

I would be keen to get others take on whether there is a different yardstick for homosexual abuse. My intuition and logic suggests there would be.

Do you still live in the same community as this guy? What is the word on the street about the case?

My experience is that Mos can cut swathes of leeway for their own up to a certain point: AND THEN they can trip into blind irrational hatred - going to the other extreme. It is typical of the black/white world they live in.

At times like this I want to shout from the highest peak:

Where is the power of the Priesthood?

How come no one, not one priesthood leader was prompted by the Holy Ghost that this guy was problematic? (In reality many women in his area probably had him with a high score on their sleaze-meter, but what does their opinion matter!)

He must have had dozens of interviews over the years, right up to quite senior leaders. Why aren't people asking where their worthiness is at, if they could not detect such a character?

Remember that baptism and the Priesthood are all about guaranteeing that they can have the Holy Ghost as a permanent companion. Well "Holy G! Where were you when they needed you?"

We are not speaking of the odd radar failure here. This is the equivalent of a B52 with a full payload getting through all defence mechanisms and unleashing its destructive force right on teh most precious and vulnerable target.

Sorry guys, but your Holy G defences are a Crock and you would rather see innocents abused than shake yourself out of your delusion! How many kids have to abused by these people, before Mos wake up that the King has no clothes?

1 Some day, and I say this without religious overtones. I believe that all the books are going to be balanced. I guess you could call it Karma!! I think if we commit a painful infraction agains another, and don't fix it as best we can, we are going to face it again some day! Just my opinion!!!

2 At some point I think there is going to be a case brought against a high level church leader, and he will be convicted. Again. Just my opinion!! If that happens something will change. Take a look at the catholic church!!

I absolutley respect the laws regarding this case. What irks me is why would the prosecutor allow this kid to go through this when the statute of limitations was CLEARLY expired. grrrr

It makes me wonder how much the church was aware of.

I've seen this guy break the law, many employees saw it and when reported to proper management NOTHING was done. Even an HR rep quit because of the frustration. He had a lot of support from member employees.

It all caught up with him eventually. But a lot of people were hurt and wrongfully blamed for acts he committed. grrrr

My understanding is that several other victims came forward but refused to press charges. Probably because of the statute issues, I don't know. Or they were waiting to see what happened in this kid's case.

When my son was in the hospital he shared a room with one of these alleged victims. Very very sad.

I never lived in this guy's community but everyone whom I still work with who worked with him are not surprised at all. But frustrated as well. It would have been nice to see it at least go to trial.

At least the info is available and people can make their own decision.

Note - I may delete this post as I have revealed a lot of info about myself. It wouldn't be hard for someone to figure out where I work, who my son is, etc. I don't really care. But I do want to protect my family.
