I sent in my resignation letter on December 14th to be exact and got my 30 day notice a couple days later. It said I would hear from my bishop but he hasn't attempted to call.
Does anyone have experience with this? How long does it usually take? I understand it should only take about 30 days but I've heard stories where it has taken months to get out. We have a nazi stake prez so I am worried they will try to delay it as long as possible.
To avoid any possible delays, I used the format from mormonnomore.com and added my own personal demands.

They did not have me wait the thirty day wait period. I called and told them I knew by law the moment I mailed my letter and they received it I was not longer a member.
Then I repeated the same message to the Stake President. I am glad not to be apart of the Mormon Church any longer. I think all church leaders have Nazi mentality.
Just let them know by law, you are no longer a member as soon as they received your letter. Then if you want to be persistant, fax, SLC Member records, with your letter, and do a follow up call to Memeber Records too, and tell them to take your name off. Then you do have to wait for your stake pres. to delay, and tell SLC too when they get your fax you are no longer a member any more.
They want to be so rid of you for bothering them so often you will be off before 30 days!
It works like a charm.

I'll be making a call Monday morning. I am anxious to be OUT. Anxious to have a party and I can't think of a better reason!

A couple weeks ago I called COB and asked about the status of my resignation letter that was mailed on December 14th. Yes, they recieved it on the 15th. There is no update. My bishop should have contacted me. He will call my bishop immediately. I should expect a letter from my bishop AND from the COB. Cool!
Today I get a letter from THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS. YES YES YES YES I was so excited!!!!! Hubby brought it in smiling, just beaming. "I have something you want", he taunted. What is it? What is it? Oooooo give it to me, what is it? A letter from COB, honey, do you want it? No way! Finally finally finally...I rip it open planning my Unbaptism party quietly in my mind....yeeeehaaaaa!
Wait. WTF? NO F'ING WAY!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS CRAP????
A letter from my BISH informing me that he is processing my request to have my name removed. Reminding me that all baptism and temple blessings would be dissolved (not chit, Sherlock? duh) And that I had 30 days to stop the process. And if I did desire to stop the process I could contact my stake prez and he generously offered stake prez's contact info.
STUPID CONTROL FREAKS! Dragging out a simple request. SIMPLE. Let's waste tithing money on postage and time and paper and what the hell ever else because after all, there's more where that came from, right? grrrrrrrr
So yes, I am livid. I didn't think I would ever allow the church to make me this angry again. EVER. Boy was I wrong. I am so angry I could cry. (uhoh admitting I have emotions before a public audience)
I am calling COB tomorrow. This time I will not be nice. I will not joke and be my funny little cute self. Oh, HELL NO. I will remind that that I am not a TWO year old and I don't need freaking 30 days. If I wanted 30 days I would have asked for it. I wanted my name resigned IMMEDIATELY just like my letter states. Stupid suits with stupid nothing better to do than irritate those who think for themselves. I will ask if they know what 'immediately' means and I will kindly provide a dictionary definition of the word.
And I will write a letter to my bish. I was going to call but he is my neighbor and I don't want him to hear the frustration in my voice. I will DEMAND that my request be processed IMMEDIATELY.
Just another reminder of how CONTROLLING the church insists on being.
I am THRILLED to be officially getting out.
To you church monitors - HERE ARE YOUR TITHING DOLLARS HARD AT WORK. Enjoy.

No s#it Schmoely! They are now offering a cooling off period in case you decide this is not what you really, reaaaaaaaaaaally want to doooooooo?
Wonder if they will introduce a cooling off period going in!
Like you have been inactive, what is it 3 years, and they want to check that you just might have fired off you LoR on impulse. Riiiiiiiiiiight!
Write back and say "Please add me to the ever growing list that are stampeding to the Out-Door, having worked out what a great con this is. If you have an Express Service, that costs a few dollars more, please consider me a candidate for an upsell."
You will let us know, and we can all join you (virtually) for your unbaptism party!
Daryl
PS: I am watching the responses on the Exit Door poll and based upon the thousands that have responded thus far :o , for every person who has been pushed or resigned, there is one person still "on the record' who is past it - seriously!

SilverFox,
Do not be upset, you are not a church member as soon as they received your letter in December, that is the law, just write them and say you do not wish the 30 day wait if it bothers you.
The Church here played quite a game with me, on the day they wrote and mailed the name removal letter to me the date corresponded, to an event which was taking place in the county on the same day. ( I cannot give the details on the event, but the local church hear knew what they were doing).
They are a controling group, and game players, but your no longer one of the church members.
Just relax, enjoy yourself, they are doing all they work, you are already not a member.
SilverFox, you got a few good things for your LDS experience. If I have been reading your post right, and also how you just described getting your letter given to you, sounds as if you got a pretty good hunk of a man there. I would just focus there, and celebrate life with him. :)
Your out of the LDS Church and you left with a good man! Best wishes to both of you for a good life together. ;)

While I FEEL your frustration (it oozes right through my computer monitor :D ) I can't help but giggle as I imagine Silverfox stomping around the house, cursing the day that Joseph Smith was born, conjuring up the horrible things you're gonna do! "I'm gonna rip your arms off! I'm gonna rub salt in the wound! I'm gonna call the papers! I'm gonna..." It's probably not very nice of me, but you're fun when your angry! :D
Waiting with you for your final letter is a lot more fun when it comes with fireworks!
