View Full Version : Isn't it about Time...

I was recently thinking about all the "extra" time I have now being away from the Church. Then I starting thinking, I wonder how much time it really is... so here's a quick calculation I just did. This assumes no "callings" in the church, just a normal, active member:

3 hours per week x 4 weeks = 12 hours per month in church
1 hour per month Home/Visiting teaching
1 hour per month being Home/Visting taught
2 hours per month at the Temple
6+ hours twice a year for General conference

That's 204 hours per year just for the normal meetings (again, assuming no additional callings, etc.).

204 hours divided by 16 hours for a full day (8 hours sleeping) = 12.75 days per year. :Puking

Now, 12 days per year x 60 years = 720 days = 2 years of your waking life given to the Church... :duh

Now, isn't it about time... :slap:

There is one point that you missed in your calculation. Count all the hours that you still think about the church and substract that figure from the above figure and you should come out even or in a minus number. My guess is that you spend a lot of time still thinking about the church which would cancel out your free time count. Of course I could be wrong but it is alittle strange isn't it? :)

Don't forget about getting you and family ready for church, filling those antidepressant prescriptions, preparing lessons.

Ahhhh life is so much better.

What about those hours spent totally STARVING on fast sundays (two meals, that's at least 12 full hours EVERY MONTH and that should count, because I, for one, can't do anything remotely productive when I'm hungry), all those potluck dinners you're *expected* to attend (for appearance purposes), say about two hours for every major holiday, so about 10 hours (counting a Christmas thing, a Halloween party, a 4th of July potluck, an Easter potluck, and a random potluck for some just-because reason), and all the time spent filling out those lame fast sunday forms, say a total of two hours a year.

SO.....you are off by at least 156 hours, by my count! Shame shame! :D

You're onto something, though....the church needs to put this into their "Isn't it about....time?" commercial ad campaign.

Making green jello frequently ought to count for something.

Now though, when I think about the church, I am usually having a cold beer, or something else that I enjoy. Before, I was involved in the church, doing things I did not enjoy.

So I think I'll take the latter!!
Works better for me.

Don't forget Family Home Evening once a week

and Bishops Interviews & Tithing Settlement

and priesthood meeting, the one broadcasted via satellite near General Conference (been a long time...I can't remember what it was called, but boy were they boring)

and if you were raised Mormon:

-Mutual every week
-Gathering Fast Offerings once a month
-Firesides once a month or so
-Baptisms 4 Decaying Strangers

Oh yeah... how could I forget getting up at 4:00 a.m. to drive through six inches of snow to pick up my friends and then go across town for Seminary?

I definitely want all those hours of good sleeping time back. (Except for the ones where I actually slept right through the seminary class. The church can keep those. :D )
