If you haven't visited the Fair boards lately I would encourage you to do so. I have been hanging out there over the past few days and have had an enjoyable time pointing out some of the glaring logic problems with various church teachings. I was also suprised to find a fairly sizeable group of people standing up to the TBM posters and often holding their own in the debates. If you are wondering which one I am look for the posts by lds8n't. :D

The message board is currently offline. The message says it is being moved to a new server. We shall see when it comes back online if there have been some accidental deletions during the move. :duh

In most of the threads I was following the members were receiving a fairly royal a** whooping. However I was also pleased to find some TBM who were actually somewhat reasonable and civil.

I hope you guys don't feel like I have been cheating on you with another message board! But sometimes it is more fun to discuss issues with people who totally and utterly disagree with you!! :D

helemon,

You guys on the group have an advantage over me. I have seen numerous mentions of FAIR, but have never visited.

Can you assist with the address?

Basically, it is a smattering of tripe and justifications. When they can't come up with an answer. . . they try to fill you with "facts" most of which have no bearing on the subject.

Reminds me of Hugh Nibley every once in a while.

The Fair boards show that LDS people are open to dabate and have a willingness to open the reiligion to dialogue and argumentation. It is not for everyone but I think that the board where they take on critics is quite useful to get it all out in the open. The other boards can be more peaceful in content and orientation. But now...comrades...by straying into sights that may influence you out of postmormonism you put this forum in danger...we do not want any apostates here...contact Jeff for help in your temptations.... :) :D Free Thinker makes a great batch of cookies and he will gladly pay you a visit if you so wish... :) Good luck in you search for difference and tolerance...

I am sorry if I couched my opinion in such a manner that led one to believe I was criticizing the boards. I meant FAIR in general.

From what I have witnessed, I would agree with your assesment of their forums.

I never thought that you were critical of the boards... :)

I confess... I'm a regular poster over at FAIR, as well. Nice to see you over here, lds8n't--err, Helemon! ;)

I go by the name "Daniel" over on FAIR--I'm the resident apostate gay guy over there... lol... I usually stick to discussions defending homosexuality and gay rights/marriage, etc., though I sometimes spill over into other topics.

I 'lurk' !!! pretty much everyday at FAIR just to see what is going on. It's pretty good that they are inviting non-members (and ex-members???!!!) on to the board for discussion.

Helemon I thought I recognised your writing style! and I knew you were Daniel Darin!!!

In the UK last night Darin, there was a programme on called 'Middle Sex' it was absolutely fantastic, though sad for some of the individuals involved.

A little boy/girl called Noah, had a chromosome 'abnormality' and was a boy who just thought he was a girl, and did so from 3 years of age.

Heartbreaking for the parents and the child, because of all the teasing and so on.

They then showed the 'boy/girls' that come from Thailand. These 'women' were beautiful. I tell you they beat most women I know!!!

Also, in some university research they had some homophobes and some non-homophobe men watch two men having sex with each other and measured their arousal levels.

Guess who got more aroused but who denied it vehemenently?!! (Dogzilla I just know that I spelt that incorrectly!! I need a dictionary!!)

Yes I am here baking away. What would you prefer , double chocolate chip, or rice krispy treats? :D

I dont worry to much about what church apologists have to say. Whenever I doubt my defection from mormonism I just think of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young alone in a room with that one young lady, as Brigham was trying to talk her into marry him. Joseph was trying to close the sale for him telling the girl there is not a finer man etc. :Puking Paraphrasing there. I try to imagine how I would have felt if she were my sister or daughter.

That scene will keep me securely out of the fold for the rest of my life!!

Even if that wasn't enough, I have a huge grab bag of nigglers form 30 years in the church. I can just reach in and pull one out at will. Would you like to see another one?

Ummm, I am in the mood for double chocolate chip tonight. Could you stop by at around 7 in the evening...? And please bring some caffeine free diet coke...cookies make me thirsty...see you soon... :D

But that being said (and thanks free thinker for the cookies), the fair boards are interesting but so are many other TBM boards. When I read them, I come to realize that we are all in this life together...united by a questioning mind...trying to come to terms with reality and belief. I also enjoy the Feminist Mormon Housewives blog. And I have commented there under a different name. I do have a certain sympathy for socialist feminism. Life is certainly a learning experience...filled with great mysteries...but I don't believe that I will figure it all out but then...maybe it is not meant to be that way...is it?
