Well, interestingly enough, my father-in-law is considering doing a service mission for the Church in Salt Lake as a surveyor.

They want him to come in as soon as possible because apparently the current guy is like 80 and doesn't do a heck of a lot. But my folks-in-law still have stuff to tie up. So we'll hope the old feller holds out.

Just so you know - there IS a construction mission.

:duh Man is there nothing the church wont call a person on a mission for in order to get free labor!???

Are there restrictions on the types of projects missionaries can work on? Does the work have to be on a chapel or could it be used on projects for the Corporation of the President?

From the RfM board, Further confirmation of the construction mission:
I served in the Tongan mission. Most of the chapels there were built by "labor missionaries." There were some semi-retired Americans who served as supervisors, on their own dime, but most of the work was done by native Tongans. Later, many of these same people were "called" on another "labor mission" to construct the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii, which has been a *very* profitable venture for LDS Inc. It was nothing but exploitation of free labor. Chintzy bastards. Nothing is beyond them.

It is one thing to donate your time to a chapel but to be shipped around as free labor to build things like the PCC which doesn't even talk about church teachings and charges for people to attend the shows is pure explotation of members.

I think it would be a good idea to have a pizza place next to church headquarters. All the employees would be on a mission and therefore when the bretheren working late into the night needed some chow, they could call for some sacred pie, and not have to tip the delivery person!!
