For anyone interested, Simon Southerton (http://www.post-mormons.com/exp_e/index.php/magazine/feature_article/2004/09/22) will be coming to Logan, Utah to speak next week on Friday the 28th. Arrangements have been made a USU for a room that can accommodate 200 people because the local newspaper is going to print an article or two about his visit between now an then. We should get quite a crowd. The reporter I talked to considers his visit big news for Cache Valley. Keep in mind that Cache Valley has been primed for his visit with the controversy that ensued a few months ago when the DNA vs. Book of Mormon issue was debated in the local letters to the editor. You can read most of those letters (http://www.post-mormons.com/exp_e/index.php/letters/2004/12/21) in our magazine by clicking on the Magazine tab above.

Any post-Mormons who attend are also invited to a private reception in Logan after the speaking event where they can meet Simon personally. Bring a dessert if you can. The following day I have made arrangements with our local Border’s Books to host a book signing for Simon. It will probably start at 10:00 AM. I think the local newspaper will interview him on Saturday as well and will produce a followup article.

So for anyone within travelling distance you are welcome to attend. I’d enjoy meeting any of you I’ve not yet met! And of course it would be nice to see again those of you who I have met. ;)

Great. Wish I wish in driving distance.
I'm going to try and get my brother and a few others up there for the speech.

When you get more info as to the time and room location of the speech, please let me know.

An article in yesterday's local newspaper about Southerton's visit starts out saying, "Utah Valley Community College had Michael Moore; Utah State University will have Simon Southerton." When I read that I realized that I'd better make arrangements for security and got that squared away yesterday with the campus police department. It's too bad we can't count on all Mormons to live the 11th article of faith: "We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may."

Not that I'm a Michael Moore fan...I haven't even seen his flicks, but still--Simon is being compared to one of THE most controversial figures of the current times! He should feel honored! ;)

Southerton has, with his research, completely disemboweled the book of mormon. You know what I wish the most? That Fawn Brodie could have lived long enough to see this!! :(
